Lisa has had a tremendous impact on my leadership growth. I consider Lisa to be a defining example of what makes a great leader. People seek out mentors and leaders for different reasons, and I view Lisa has a great mentor professionally because Lisa empowers and encourages me to seek out growth opportunities for myself. A critical component to leadership is empowering people to grow (Tiambo, 2019). Lisa goes above and beyond to empower, as Lisa consistently encourages growth, and works to help her staff grow, taking a keen interest in the journey we all take on our quest to self-improve. Lisa has imparted on me two valuable leadership mantras: Ask the right questions, and work smart, not hard. Both of these mantras define my leadership process because of Lisa.
I admire Derrick for his confidence. Derrick is confident in his feelings and himself, and that includes both his strengths and weaknesses. I admire Derrick’s authenticity in who he is, and his comfort with himself. Additionally, Derrick is open to new ideas and areas of growth. I believe life is a constant journey of growth, and having seen Derrick embrace this ideology himself is truly inspirational. Derrick is also what I consider to be the most authentic and consistent person on the planet. Derrick does not cave under pressure when his ideals are challenged, and Derrick will never compromise his integrity regardless of the situation. Authentic leaders form honest relationships, are open to – and value – input, and balance decision-making on an ethical foundation (The Audiopedia, 2017). Derrick is a shining example of what it means to be an authentic leader.
