Wizz Air, the fastest growing airline in Europe and the leading low-cost carrier in Central and Eastern Europe, today announces its new and transparent baggage policy that aims to make it easier for passengers to board and ensures that all passengers passengers bring one free piece of hand luggage. in the aircraft cabin on all Wizz Air flights, starting November 1, 2018.
Wizz Air is a Hungarian low-cost airline that flies within Europe. It is generally the best option for low-cost flights when traveling to Eastern European countries.
As a low-cost airline, Wizz Air charges for all checked baggage, as well as one larger piece of carry-on baggage. Please note that carry-on baggage fees have been updated for 2023. Be sure to also check the updated 2023 peak season dates, during which checked baggage is more expensive.
The airline’s historical figures show that more than 10,000 flights a year are affected by baggage-related delays. The figures also show that, over the last five years, the average length of stay in a destination has continuously decreased, and today, one in three Wizz Air travelers book trips of three days or less. As a consequence of shorter journeys, WIZZ passengers pack light and smart. One in three passengers bought a checked bag, while only one in seven opted for the Trolley bag, which could be taken on board.
As of November 1, each passenger is entitled to take one free carry-on bag (40x30x20 cm) on board, while passengers who purchase WIZZ Priority will be able to take a trolley bag (55x40x23 cm) also in the cabin. Based on customer feedback and changing travel patterns, Wizz Air has introduced a 10kg checked bag to facilitate a comfortable travel experience with prices starting as low as €7.
The airline’s new clear and fair baggage policy is the policy of choice for our passengers, allowing WIZZ customers to choose from over 50 hand and checked baggage variations based on their individual preferences.
Johan Eidhagen, Marketing Director of Wizz Air, said: “Passengers want unbundled products and that is the heart of the ultra low cost model, Wizz Air also applies. We want to offer our customers the lowest possible fares as well as a transparent view of ticket prices. By unbundling products and services, Wizz Air democratizes the way of traveling and enables a pay-as-you-go offer.”
We encourage our passengers to pack smart and buy WIZZ Priority, which includes a free hand luggage (40x30x20 cm), a trolley bag (55x40x23 cm) to take on board, priority check-in and priority boarding from as little as €5.
Bookings without WIZZ Priority made before October 10 for the travel period after November 1, 2018 will be upgraded with free 10kg checked baggage, while bookings with checked baggage will be upgraded with WIZZ Priority.
Wizz Air believes that this transparent and clear approach to baggage policy will contribute to faster and more convenient boarding, a better customer experience, and at the same time improve the airline’s on-time departure performance. With more certainty that a bag can fit on board, and a new, broader selection of baggage weight and size options, customers now have an unprecedented variety of combinations to choose from.
Johan Eidhagen added: “We are delighted to introduce our new transparent and fair-for-all baggage policy, which offers the widest selection of baggage options for our customers, while allowing one free carry-on bag for every passenger. We are convinced that our versatile offer of more than 50 luggage combinations will meet the needs of our customers in a personalized way and our passengers will continue to pay only for those services they wish to use. Starting November 1, we will make travel more convenient while offering the lowest possible fares to our extensive network of 143 destinations in 44 countries.”
