If you want a heavy-duty, high-capacity filter built for the rugged demands of a pickup truck running synthetic or high-mileage oil, choose Wix 51372; if you need a lightweight, long-life solution engineered specifically for high-performance Yamaha motorcycles with extended drain intervals, choose K&N Motorcycle Oil Filter.
• Wix 51372: Its biggest strength is massive dirt-holding capacity and durability for standard automotive applications, but it is a heavier, single-use unit designed for shorter service intervals. This pick is for drivers of Ford, Lincoln, Mazda, and Cadillac vehicles who prioritize reliable protection over extended mileage.
• K&N Motorcycle Oil Filter: Its biggest strength is the ability to handle up to 20,000 miles of protection with premium media that maintains high flow rates, though it is smaller and lighter than typical automotive filters. This pick is for motorcycle enthusiasts running 2007–2025 Yamaha models like the XT250 or YZ250FX who want fewer changes on the road.
The Wix 51372 is engineered as a spin-on lube filter that prioritizes sheer volume and robustness. When you look at the physical specifications, this unit measures roughly 3.93 inches by 4 inches by 3.93 inches and weighs nearly half a pound. That substantial weight isn't just dead mass; it reflects the density of the filtration media inside.
This filter is built for the environment where your vehicle spends most of its time. Whether you are towing a trailer in your pickup truck or navigating dusty roads, the Wix 51372 is designed to trap contaminants effectively without restricting flow. It works with both synthetic and high-mileage oils, making it a versatile choice for older engines that might need a little extra help staying clean. The design focuses on reliability and consistency rather than extending the time between changes. If you follow a standard maintenance schedule—say, every 5,000 to 7,500 miles—this filter provides a solid wall of defense against sludge and particulate matter.
However, this product is not meant for everyone. If you are looking for a filter that lasts twice as long as the industry standard, the Wix 51372 is not that tool. It is a replacement part meant to be discarded and replaced regularly. It is also strictly compatible with specific makes and models, primarily Ford, Lincoln, Mercury, Mazda, and certain Cadillac variants from the early 2000s through 2019. If your vehicle falls outside these applications, this filter simply will not fit. It is a straightforward, no-nonsense component for owners who value proven protection and don't mind swapping it out frequently.

In stark contrast to the bulky automotive filter, the K&N Motorcycle Oil Filter is a precision-engineered component designed for two-wheel performance. Measuring just 2 inches by 2 inches by 2 inches and weighing less than four ounces, it is incredibly compact. Despite its small footprint, the engineering behind it is aggressive. The manufacturer explicitly states it is engineered for "up to 20,000 miles of protection." This is a game-changer for riders who hate stopping at a garage every few thousand miles to change their oil.
The core of this filter lies in its media. It uses a premium synthetic material with uniform pleats that deliver exceptional filtration while maintaining high oil flow rates. In a high-revving motorcycle engine, oil flow is everything. If the filter restricts flow even slightly, the engine can suffer. K&N claims to have extensively tested this unit for burst strength and capacity, ensuring it won't collapse under pressure even when pushing the limits of the oil change interval. It is compatible with premium synthetic, conventional, and blended oils, offering flexibility regardless of what fluid you prefer to use in your bike.
This filter is exclusively for select 2007–2025 Yamaha models, including the XT250, YZ250FX, WR250F, and various X-Max and Iron Max scooters. If you ride one of these machines, the K&N filter is a direct factory replacement designed for easy installation. It is ideal for the rider who treats their machine as a high-performance tool rather than just transportation. The longevity reduces the total number of oil changes needed over the life of the bike, which appeals to those who ride long distances or participate in endurance events. However, it is not a universal part; if you drive a car or truck, this filter is useless to you.
• Best for Pickup Trucks and Heavy Vehicles → Wix 51372. The larger surface area and higher dirt-holding capacity make it the superior choice for the heavier loads and stop-and-go driving patterns common in trucks.
• Best for Extended Drain Intervals → K&N Motorcycle Oil Filter. With a rated lifespan of up to 20,000 miles, it vastly outperforms standard filters if you are willing to use the correct oil type.
• Best for High-Flow Performance Engines → K&N Motorcycle Oil Filter. The uniform pleat design ensures oil moves freely, which is critical for high-RPM motorcycle engines.
• Best for Standard Maintenance Schedules → Wix 51372. If you change your oil every 5,000 miles, the Wix offers excellent protection without needing to justify the cost of a specialized long-life filter.
• Best for Versatility with Oil Types → Both. Both filters work with synthetic, conventional, and blended oils, so you aren't forced into a specific brand of fluid.
• Best for Specific Vehicle Compatibility → Wix 51372 (Cars/Trucks) / K&N (Yamaha Motorcycles). You must match the ASIN to the vehicle platform; they do not cross-over.
• Best for Durability Under Load → Wix 51372. The increased dirt-holding capacity suggests it can manage more contamination before reaching its limit, suitable for dirty work environments.
I would buy the Wix 51372 if I were maintaining my daily driver pickup truck. The sheer size and dirt-holding capacity of this filter give me peace of mind when hauling loads or driving on rough terrain. It is a workhorse designed to handle the abuse of a full-size vehicle, and the fact that it works seamlessly with synthetic oils means it fits right into modern maintenance routines. While the K&N filter is impressive for its longevity, it is too specialized for general automotive use. For a pickup truck, I want the proven, high-capacity protection of the Wix, and I know exactly where to check the current price on Amazon to get it installed.
No. The Wix 51372 is designed for specific Ford, Lincoln, Mazda, and Cadillac passenger cars and trucks, while the K&N filter is application-specific only for select 2007–2025 Yamaha motorcycles. They are not interchangeable.
According to the product specifications, it is engineered for up to 20,000 miles of protection when used with compatible oil types.
The Wix 51372 is explicitly built for high-mileage oil and features increased dirt-holding capacity, making it the logical choice for older or heavily used trucks.
No. The dimensions and thread specifications of the K&N filter are tailored for Yamaha motorcycle engines. Using it in a car would likely result in a poor fit and potential engine damage.
