Taking Acknowledgments: Verifying the identity of a signer who declares that they understand the document and are signing it voluntarily (commonly used for deeds, mortgages, contracts, and powers of attorney).
Executing Jurats: Witnessing a signer swear or affirm that the contents of a document are completely true. The signer must sign the document in the direct presence of the notary.
Administering Oaths and Affirmations: Verbally administering a formal, legally binding promise to tell the truth (with "Oaths" referencing a higher power/Deity and "Affirmations" being non-religious).
Taking Depositions and Affidavits: Administering the oath to a witness for a deposition and certifying the written record/transcript of that statement.
Certifying Copies of Powers of Attorney: Verifying and certifying that a copy of a Power of Attorney document is a true and correct reproduction of the original.
Certifying Copies of the Notary’s Own Journal Entries: Providing a certified copy of a specific transaction line from their official notary journal upon a lawful request or subpoena.
Proof of Execution by a Subscribing Witness: Verifying a document's execution when the primary signer cannot appear, but a witness who watched them sign (and who is personally known to the notary) appears instead (permissible only for specific types of documents).
