We have created an in-depth guideline for students to help them outline their original science projects, which allows them to take a more active role in learning about science research and developing an original idea. This will also help students gain an understanding of the scientific method, and initiate their independent research journey.
We have a set daily schedule for students, we aim for them to design their project on Monday, test and collect data on Tuesday and Wednesday, make their poster on Thursday, practice presenting on Friday, and then attend the WISER symposium on Saturday. Students will be able to complete the entire project in the camp hours.
Our program allows for every student to have an independent research project completed and ready to compete at the WISER Symposium, which we host. Students will be able to get awards and feedback on their projects, and potentially compete in other science symposiums with the project they create.
Science Symposiums are a staple of High School Science Projects. As part of WISER's goal to help students along their independent research journey, WISER looks to host a science symposium for all camp members to participate in at the end of their time at the camp, so they can amass stronger real-world exposure to the field of science research. This symposium will include awards, however, each participant will also receive personalized feedback on not only their symposium performance but also help in what science research they can pursue in the future. Parents and guests can purchase tickets and observe the symposium as well. The symposium will include activities for both parents and students to participate in.
