Collaborative interdisciplinary work is quintessential to solving complex solutions in our society. However, trying to find partners from diverse and unfamiliar disciplines can be challenging and intimidating. As women, it is even more challenging to establish meaningful research connections due to the lack of support, networking opportunities, and funding for women.
That is why the WISE network invites you to apply for the WISE Network Interdisciplinary Conference Fellowship. We aim to provide an opportunity to female students, like yourself, to join the world of interdisciplinary research. This year, WISE will provide a fellowship of up to $750 in partial funding to cover the expenses (eg. registration, travel) to attend the interdisciplinary research conference of the student's choosing. This application is open to Sophomore, Junior, and Senior undergraduate students as well as all graduate students who identify as female. Students DO NOT need to be involved in research or know which conference they would like to attend in order to receive this award. Our goal is to provide this fellowship to students who would not otherwise be able to attend a research conference. However, students in research may apply with the intention of presenting their own research at their chosen research conference.
Applications for funding are open and will close on October 25, 2023. The award winners will be announced in early November. Fellowships can be used for conference travel by Decemeber 1, 2023. The committee will assist students in choosing a conference, coordinating their travel as well as preparing their presentations.
Along with attending a research conference, all award recipients will be asked to participate in a Conference "Reflections" Event. Recipients will share about their experiences and take-aways from the interdisciplinary conference. This event will also serve as a networking event to allow member of the WPI community to communicate about potential interdisciplinary research opportunities. Other women researchers including students, faculty and alumni will be encouraged to discuss their work to start conversations about future collaborations and celebrate the work of women in interdisciplinary research.
In order to apply for this application, you must:
