The SLASO is always trying to put together different events, from those academically focused to others more related to members' "off-campus lives".
Below you will see a description of the different types of events SLASO organizes with examples of some that have taken place in the recent.
For current events, we encourage you to look at the real-time calendar at the bottom and participate in what may be of interest. We look forward to seeing you!
BD are, mostly faculty-led, series of talks that have as the main goal providing students with different professional development opportunities. These are rather informal discussions where participants can bring their own questions and get involved in workshop-y activities that may serve as continuous preparation during (graduate) school as well as for the professional future both inside and outside the university context.
Recent past BD include:

RS are students-only, informal conversations about the various research projects SLA (or linguistics-related) students work on. These discussions go from sharing ideas about future investigations to dissertation proposals or chapters, and are a great opportunity for both undergraduate and graduate students to obtain feedback from their peers in a safe and friendly environment while having some snacks!

The SG are friendly get-together events that SLASO members organize once or twice per month at different on- and off-campus locations. The main goal of these is to socialize, catch up with school-related and unrelated activities, and have fun! Some examples of SLASO social gatherings include, but are not limited to: hanging out at the Terrace and enjoy the Lake views, having a fire pit at Picnic Point, (board)games nights, baking competitions, dinners out in Madison downtown, and ice-cream socials…
Feel free to join us (or come up with your own suggestions for future SG)!
