We have a few users who were recently upgraded their laptop to Dell 5510 with Windows 11. Since then they are having issues connecting to the TVs (Veon brand TV) in meeting rooms wirelessly. When we do Win Key + K to try and connect to the TV, it would connect but than immediately drop out and disconnect.

It has been observed that in 90% of cases, when a User starts a WirelessProjection stream, the device they are using is already connected to anexisting Wi-Fi network, either in a home or a business. In response tothis, Microsoft has extended the ability to send a Miracast stream overa local network rather than over a direct wireless link in the Windows10 Creators Update.

i am using windows 10 and wants to mirror my screen on my pc/laptop through it. when i bought my laptop i was able to connect but after reinstallation of windows i failed to find Microsoft Connect app. i tried other sources and by Google i got that i can enable

It's step #3 where things fall down. There is no "Connect to a wireless display" option on my desktop. My guess here is that since my desktop is connected to the network via Ethernet, Windows 10 somehow assumes that I won't be able to connect to a wireless display.

Is this just a Windows 10 bug or does this "wireless display" feature use WiFi specifically to connect to the device, rather than connecting to a display on the network. If the answer is the latter, I'm interested to know how it does that because it's not something I'm familiar with.

The technology is actually designed to do it through wireless. Somehow, if your TV is connected to Internet with Ethernet cable, you should be able to mirror your screen with a 2.4ghz wireless connected computer. In most scenarios, I dont know why but 5ghz wireless connections doesn't reach to your TV via Ethernet cable.

If you want to cast your screen to your TV using Ethernet, make sure the computer connected to 2.4 ghz network wireless and also Ethernet plugged. That way, your TV (at least Samsung Smart TVs) will be able to catch the connection.

So far I have to always manually connect to it... bigger pain than you may think because I don't much like having to walk over to the pc terminal, power on the monitor, connect, power off, work from the wireless terminal... especially when having to do multiple resets/setups in a row lol...

Once configured, open the Wireless Display app on the Surface and then press Win+K on Host machine, and wait - the hostname of the Surface should show in the lower left under the available displays. Once there, click and wait for the devices to connect.

The iPad is used to turn on the TV screen and select which presentation point on the desk the user wants to share from, there are notes how to do this in the room along with press windows and P and duplicate on the sheet - the calls we get about this are 99% of the time because the iPad isn't working because someone use the socket to charge their phone and it's battery is flat.

Now you have to start the shortcut, select the screen in the list (for me only the MS Wireless Display adapter) and click Enter.

Because I don't have visual before connecting to the display this becomes: starting shortcut, TAB and ENTER in the blind.

It would be great if starting up the pc would automatically connect to the wall display, or perhaps with a single key.

Windows 10 has the ability to mirror your screen to any dongle or device (streaming box, TV) compatible with the popular Miracast standard since its launch in 2015. Microsoft's OS now lets your PC become the wireless display, receiving Miracast signals from a smartphone, tablet, or other Windows laptops or desktops.

If you have a small Windows 10-powered laptop hooked up to your TV, it can now double as a wireless display dongle for your phone or laptop.

When you're mirroring from a Windows 10 laptop, you can extend rather than duplicate the screen so you can, for example, stream a movie on the receiving display while you send emails on the primary one. Just imagine taking a tablet, propping it up next to your laptop, and using it as a second monitor on the road.

Sharing is caring: here's how to share your screen in Windows 10 (with or without the internet). When you're done, check out if it's worth upgrading to Windows 11.

While most modern devices with Wi-Fi have the ability to send out a Miracast signal, compatibility is spotty at best. Sometimes you have to try casting your screen three or four times before the process works. So be patient. If you accidentally rotated your screen while attempting to extend your display, we have a quick fix for that.

5. Click Change projection mode and select Extend from the menu that appears if you want to use the wireless display as a second desktop, rather than a mirror of your current desktop.

- there are no much info available on Arch Wiki

- few posts (eg. =252723) on this forum, neither got good answers.

- I tried -network-displays step by step, but failed to cast my dual-boot laptop (win10 + manjaro xfce) to tv when running manjaro. ( for the same hardware it is pretty smooth casting win10 to the same tv on the same wlan)

The various software projects that are needed for wireless displays are done by volunteers and community driven. If you want something that's currently not running or not running well: roll up your sleeves, get involved and help out.

Thank @seth @zebulon for the info.

I guess I am not the last one looking for wireless display solution on (Arch) Linux, who had some user experience with miracast/chromecast/airplay, but had not enough knowledge/experience of DIY or implementation of the subject. So to sum up:

-- As of 2020 miracast is mainly adopted by windows and the future of the protocol is still uncertain.

-- there doesn't seem to be any driven development resource on Linux about miracast.

-- gnome-network-displays might be a solution. And it doesn't stop the wifi connection. (but in my case I was trying to cast to a LG webos TV, which is on the list of tested device according to the project's Readme.md, and just got connected for one second before some error occurs.)

-- Miraclecast (cf.#5 above) is an implementation of the protocol, but one need do more to cast screen and would lost wifi internet during the casting.

I have a 50inch Roku Westinghouse TV that connected in seconds but my brand new 70 inch Samsung and my Samsung 55 inch TV NOPE! really? I know its NOT a windows issue! its a SAMSUNG ISSUE! i tried everything on these forums from firewall changes to having the APPs open on TV, setting the projection to extend mode but no luck. BUT again my Surface connects to my $250 Westinghouse TV noo problems.. Just...not my $1000 Samsung TV.. Come on SAMSUNG! I have never been able to connect my pc to Samsung TV, i always blamed to the PC but now I know its not after testing it on my cheap Westinghouse TV. Samsung give us a solution!

I have an Ubuntu laptop, but its screen is very small. Can I use the laptop screen from my Windows-10 laptop as a wireless / wired (HDMI) display? I found some documentation to allow my Windows laptop to be used as a wireless display, but nothing on connecting to a wireless display from Ubuntu or HDMI connection.

Windows10 notebooks can act as an external monitor wirelessly using the Miracast standard. This allows "source" devices such as laptops, tablets, and smartphones to send a video stream to "sink" paired display receivers such as TV, monitor, projector, or another computer that is Miracast compliant. Windows 10 can be both a source and a sink to other Miracast devices.

Speaking of wireless display, as you already know Windows 10 can act as a Miracast sink, meaning that you can use that laptop as a mere display for source devices like an Android smartphone or your Ubuntu laptop.

With a little bit of luck, it will work flawlessly and you're good to go.Otherwise, no harm has been done, just uninstall the app, or maybe you want to help debugging it and seek for help on -network-displays/-/issues where the actual developing is going on.

Windows Wireless Display uses Miracast to enable wireless projection for Windows devices and is available in various EdIT-support rooms within Peabody Hall. Instructions for connecting via Windows Wireless Display will appear on screen when the input is selected:

I use Miracast on a regular basis to connect wireless display to my TV with a Microsoft wireless display adapter. My laptop all of the sudden will no longer let me connect to a wireless display. The button that I used to click disappeared. And it now tells me that my computer does not support wireless display.

This has happened to me before and I was able to fix it by reinstalling the graphics display driver back to the old version. I tried this and it was unsuccessful. I am fairly sure it has something to do with Windows or a driver but I cannot figure it out.

2. Expand Display adapters. Right click your display adapter and select Update driver. If you can find any Miracast Wireless display adapter here, update it as well.

3. After a while, add this device again by this path: Settings > Devices > Add Bluetooth and other devices > Wireless display or dock > select your external display such as TV.

I had already tried updating the drivers without any success. the wireless display option isn't even there anymore the button has disappeared and the computer tells me that it doesn't have the hardware to support Miracast, Which is not true, it worked fine for the whole first year.

the new user was a good idea, but it didnt work. I have tried everything. I have updated every single driver i can find, as well as every windows update. I have ran all scans i can find and still nothing.

So, it has been working for a few days now, and is still technically working right now. However it started doing something all new now. The second display is kinda blurry/pix-elated and sometimes there is an audio delay. I have tried changing the refresh rate in the settings, and the resolution. ff782bc1db
