Class Rules and Policies
Class Rules and Policies
To make dog training enjoyable and safe, please review these class rules and additional guidelines.
Enforcement of rules and policies
Instructors have complete discretion in enforcing rules and policies, and maintaining a safe, enjoyable class environment.
Class cancellation and Back-up Location Notification
In case of inclement weather, students will be notified via email and text.
In case a funeral preempts the use of the facility, students will be notified via email, Facebook and/or will be called about alternative plans.
When possible, we will extend the block to make up for any cancelled classes.
Cancelled classes will not be refunded.
Reactive dogs and safety
Safety is the priority of all handlers and their dogs.
We do not have the resources to deal with dogs with severe leash reactivity or severe reactivity to other dogs and people. We can point you to some resources, but you may be asked not to come back with your dog until you have worked through it. It takes an isolated low stimulation environment, like your backyard to go through the steps to desensitize a dog.
If you have any concerns about your dog being reactive, please reach out.
Dog behavior
Dogs must be on a leash held by a handler unless instructed otherwise.
Students must have full control of their dogs inside and outside.
Even if your dog is socialized, another dog new to the environment may see another dog as a threat and try to defend itself.
Dogs who bite, demonstrate unprovoked aggression or other behavior detrimental to the class or other members may be expelled at the discretion of the instructor. Be aware of your dog and your surroundings.
Handler behavior
Dog training should be fun.
Please be courteous to your instructors, other students and kind to your dogs.
If you would like to meet another person’s dog, ask the owner if you may greet their dog prior to any physical contact.
Junior handlers
Students under the age of 16 must receive prior approval before joining a class from the Instructor or Rick Haaland for the class they are enrolling in and must be accompanied by a parent or guardian when at training.
Parking
All people visiting the facility for whatever reason will need to abide by the posted parking instructions.
Smoking policy
There is no smoking allowed at any time in the building.
Cleaning up after your dog
You must clean up after your dog – inside or out.
There is an area outside the back emergency exit for relieving your dogs. Please use it and dispose of waste in the outside receptacle.
Dog health and BIS (Bitches in Season)
Proof of Rabies vaccination is required and will be verified on the first night for all dogs 16 weeks and older.
Handlers are responsible for the health and wellbeing of their dogs.
Dogs should adhere to a vaccination protocol developed in consultation with your veterinarian.
Core Vaccinations strongly recommended:
Distemper, Adenovirus, Parainfluenza, and Parvovirus (DAPP).
Non-core recommended:
Bordetella (kennel cough), Leptospirosis, Lyme
Dogs who are ill should not be brought into the facility.
Bitches in season may not be brought to class, if a bitch is found to be in season, the instructor will ask you to leave. At a minimum, the bitch will need to be put in a vehicle if the handler wants to stay and watch the class.
