MANCHESTER ALTERNATIVE METAL
'A Poison' draws inspiration from years of harsh and self-critical introspection. Delivered with an uncompromising directness, a frantic vocal drives forward a Pandora's box of breakdowns and slams intersected with softer, melancholic moments of contemplation. The single represents a trail whisper of a change in musical direction towards a stronger hardcore influence that inevitably blossoms in upcoming EP Overlook // November.
The band’s latest release is narrative trilogy EP 'To Burn Beneath the Spotlight', closed by the enormous 'Act III: Of Loving. In Ending'. With themes of desperation, freedom, relief, finality and closure, the track brings the story told in the opening 2 performances 'Act I: The Archivist' and 'Act II: The Undoing' to a close, as the audience sits for an evening spectating decades of a life never asked for, and never desired. Accompanied by a theatrical music video (brought to life by Hauscreative and premiered on Spaceuntravel) that sees the band perform in the very setting in which the story is being told, the 7 minute finale flows through an impassioned sequence of sections and events, fully showcasing every weapon that the band has gathered in their arsenal since their inception and taking note from a range of rock and metal influences throughout the track.
"While 'To Burn Beneath The Spotlight' is a linear story, it has a deliberate abstractness, allowing people to experience it through their own lens, in their own way. The character at the centre of it has never had a specific identity, gender, age or background; they are merely an avatar through which the listener can experience the events. Although this narrative centres around difficult and challenging topics, it is designed to give an underlying sense of connection, acceptance and solidarity, so anyone listening can know that no-one is ever truly alone. This is all of our story."
“Life leaves lost souls hanging by a thread, waiting for the dawn of life to lift all sullen dread.”
Standalone single '213' examines the relationship between serial killers and a society fascinated with them. Told through the eyes of both a prolific murderer and his victims, '213' confronts the duality of a society that lives in fear and disgust of serial killers but also maintains a consistent media obsession that sensationalises and fetishises them.
'213' swings between formidable breakdowns and haunting, melancholy melodies, taking the approach from debut EP 'Vacancies' and refining it further while reflecting the lyrical themes of lunacy, murder, obsession and misery in the sordid instrumental.
"Winter Hotel’s heavy, impactful sound draws on a melting pot of influences, bringing together a five track EP steeped in quality musicianship and full of heart." - Outburn
Winter Hotel's debut EP 'Vacancies' released on June 18th 2021, combining 5 individual chapters of a larger narrative in a culmination that sways aggressively between a multitude of genres, techniques and emotions. Produced by Myroslav Borys of Jigsaw Audio (Napoleon, Borders, Martyr Defiled), the release was marked by a Slam Worldwide-hosted premiere of 'The Show Must Go On', the fifth and final chapter of the record.
Through the entirety of the release, including singles 'Lovers At Bay', 'The Exorcist's Daughter' and 'Waste', the band made their intentions clear, with the raw power of each track attracting an audience that has remained firmly by their side ever since.
“Vacancies was really where we laid the foundation of what we want to achieve conceptually in all our music by exploring our personal experiences within the stories told in the songs. This allowed us to write lyrics that are cathartic for us while also telling emotional stories that walk the line between our experienced reality and created fiction.”
