While synchronizing television shows, Windows Media Center encodes the shows using Windows Media Encoder to a Windows Media Video format at a lower quality than the original format used for viewing on the desktop media center. This is to complement the limited storage space and processing power of such portable devices. Optionally, music can also be re-encoded to a smaller file size upon synchronization.

I can confirm that I also have this issue. My DEC-200B media center remote maps multiple keys to the same output shown in the flirc software. I thought I was going crazy. I programmed the remote and moved the flirc received to my new RasPi OSMC. The up would work one time, but not the other. It was like the thing was possessed. Thanks for posting, at least I found that I wasn't doing something wrong.

The Media Center gave you a central place to organize video, images, and music and establish a home theater setup. If you need a replacement for the WMC in Windows 10, there are a number of third-party media centers that can fill the void.

First, note that media center software is not the same as media players. Media players are primarily designed for music and video playback and lack some of the options you would expect to find in standard media centers.

MediaPortal is a Kodi descendent as its original source code was forked from that media center. However, MediaPortal bears relatively little resemblance to Kodi. This is open-source media center software exclusively for Windows.

This is comprehensive media center software with extensive options and tools and support for audio, images, music, TV, and even DLNA network devices. JRiver MC is proprietary software for Windows, Mac, and Linux.

I would say that playing the MKV file on the Windows 7 box (which is what the registry modification enabled) and allowing Windows Media Center to stream an MKV file are two very different tasks. You may need to use a different streaming server. There are more than a couple listed here ( -how-to-choose-dlna-media-server-windows-mac-os-x-or-linux), but I have only tried TVersity (though it seems to work reasonably well for this).

This works well to launch xbmc with one press, nut when i try to bring the window back to the front by pressing the windows button again it corrupts xbmc and causes the different sections to move out of position on screen.

please note that portable mode did not work until I copied the xbmcargs.txt file to c:\windows\ehome, because the application searches for this file in this working directory, it will not find it in the default directory c:\program files (x86) where the installer puts it, at least unter Win7 x64. I hope this can be fixed some time by searching in the right directory.

I running Windows 7 84 bit got the Media Center Virus when I downloaded a 34 bit free code thingy, next thing I knew everything was turning into windows media center, I deleted and uninstalled anything I thought might be linked to it. I was not able to get online the conventional way but through a link I have in my doc, and from there tried to find out how to resolve this online, I learned to go to the control panel, select programs then to select turn on/off windows features, so the "Windows Media Virus" gone, in addition I created another user account, scanned Norton, Spyhunter, Malwarebytes in user and administrative accounts and scanned but nothing seems to detect it, because I'll check it by rebooting and then turning on/off the Windows Media Center box again, and Boom, it's like it becomes stronger and stronger, not sure if I should just leave the media center in the off position, or is it something I should be worried about?

When the windows media center is On, nothing works in Administration at fist only some things turn green with the windows media center logo, then after a while everything dose and if one clicks on anything the windows media window opens, Windows word I get into, that's about it. So I have to go into Guest Caca to turn off Windows Media, because it won't turn off even in safe Mode.

Hi, I went in and activated windows media center to see if it was gone, entered Safe Mode to find the same windows media center in files. Turned the Media Center off in guest account. Shut down, Re-scanned in CMD.EXE with results being Resources did not find any integrity violations C:/window/system32> and scanned in FRST
