UWP cannot use system to execute the command. UWP contain BeginShutdown method, but it only applicable to IOT device. And it will not work for Win 11, if you do want to shut down device, we suggest you use desktop bridge to make desktop extension for UWP app and shut down computer with command shutdown /s /t 0.

Here you can, for example, click on the first checkbox to make the sidebar always visible. This way you have your gadgets always in sight. A disadvantage is though, that the close button of maximized windows isn't on the top-right corner anymore. To fix this you can put the sidebar on the left side.

Firstly I need the Arduino to recognize when grid power is off, from then on it should safely shutdown my PC. I am thinking of using a "Genuino Uno" and a simple 240V AC to 5V DC converter that will act as a signal to the Arduino that grid power is still on. I will power the Arduino from a separate power source.

BTW - to enable the native power management in Windows 7, plug in your UPS and then go to "Hardware and Sound"->"Power Options"->"Edit Plan Settings"->"Change advanced power settings"->"Battery"->"Critical battery action"->"Shut Down". When I was doing this for a living in the 90s, Apple and Windows native power management both supported UPS shutdown with some sort of file saving. Linux had something that one of our employees did in his spare time, but I didn't work with it. I remember Windows not saving data for much more than Microsoft products, which might not even be relevant today since Office seems to always have a copy of my lost work even if the PC crashes.

I might have been a little unclear, I own a desktop PC that feeds of an inverter that only uses battery power once grid power is turned off (power-cut). Additionally it is completely homemade so there is no compatible software, just pure, battery powered AC current from an inverter. The inverter is able to switch to battery power seamlessly and only feeds 4 wall plugs, for monitor, printer, computer etc. So my plan is to take advantage of a wall socket that is still on the grid, so if a power-cut occurs the 240V AC to 5V DC converter will stop supplying voltage (keep in mind this does not refer to the power supply of the Arduino), my aim is for the Arduino to notice this cutoff in power and execute a shutdown.

So, what does this all mean for older hardware like cell phones, alarms, and GPS systems that thrive on the 3G spectrum? To put it bluntly, many of the network-driven features will become obsolete, presenting some unforeseen dangers. Fortunately, there are steps that you and your loved ones can take to safely transition from aging to future-proof tech. In some cases, manufacturers may even be able to give your older gadgets new life through software upgrades.

According to the CTIA, "fewer than nine percent of the US wireless connections are 2G or 3G subscriptions." If you're using a smartphone that launched after 2014, you likely won't experience any setbacks from the 3G shutdown. The same applies to flip phones that were released after 2017. Unsure of what year your device was manufactured? The best solution is to check with your local carrier -- in person or online -- to see if there are any compatibility issues.

For the past decades, home security and alarm systems have relied on 3G to communicate and monitor suspicious activities. With the 3G shutdown, that line of communication between the home and its service's central monitoring station becomes non-existent, leaving people who live alone and elders vulnerable.

Besides the categories mentioned above, there is a plethora of gadgets and services that rely on the older-generation network which you may not have been aware of. If you own any of the following, make sure to contact the manufacturer and ask what the next steps are. Depending on how old the product is, you may be eligible for a hardware or software upgrade.

- When I restart the PC with a USB cable plugged, the "USB Device over Current Status Detected !!" error happens all the time.

- When I shutdown the PC and then boot it from halt, the "USB Device over Current Status Detected !!" error does not happen.

You can specify the days and times when Chrome temporarily stops automatic checks for updates. If the device is in the middle of an update, Chrome will temporarily pause the update. You can set as many blackout windows as you need. Manual update checks that users or admins initiate during a blackout window are not blocked.

Ah, it's a different issue. I did once experience that issue of yours on my old family laptop though, back in 2015 in middleschool, after I got a virus in it :face_with_tears_of_joy:

My problem is just the battery life. It went from 3-4 hours (normal usage for school) in win10, to just 45 minutes-1hour in win11. I've searched other microsoft support threads and it seems that a lot of people are experiencing the same thing. Most of their problems are fixed *by downgrading back to windows 10 until further notice by microsoft. The whole situation here is basically just me trying to help others too :beaming_face_with_smiling_eyes:

At windows 10 I get battery backup for almost 7-8 hours but after upgrading to windows 11 is reduced to 2.5-3 hours I tried too many tips from google nothing can work. There have many bugs also that is difficult for tech people then I switch to windows 10 again.

Nearly all cyberattacks that happen to devices require user interaction. As such, in most instances, you will need to click on a link to open a door for a hacker to gain access to your gadgets or fall for a scheme that tricks you into allowing someone to gain access to your computer, laptop, smartphone or tablet.

Hi, I am wondering if I might have gotten hacked? I got a pop up dialog box on my computer randomly asking if I'd allow HP Smart to make changes to my computer/settings. I wasn't aware of any software updates recently that might have been related to this alert/request but I clicked yes anyway thinking it was legit, although suspicious. Afterwards I noticed I wasn't able to connect to my printer anymore, every time I tried to print it would say the printer was offline even though it said it was online in HP smart. I received the same dialog box on my laptop with HP Smart installed but clicked no to giving it access/permission and I was able to print normally from my laptop. Was that dialog box some kind of phishing/hacking attempt that I unwittingly said yes to? Does anyone know if that was a legit request? Was there a recent update to HP Smart for windows?

Just like any other machine, computers can break if they run nonstop for too long. Sleep mode helps minimize that risk, but your computer can still benefit from a complete shutdown from time to time.

While both involve turning off your PC, a shutdown is more about powering down completely, saving energy, and may involve a longer boot-up time. A restart, on the other hand, is more about refreshing the system without completely powering down. 0852c4b9a8
