NON FADE COLOUR FAST BRAID NOW AVAILABLE
Very impressed with the 100lb and 85lb Winchbraid that had to go through some punishment
“The past few weeks I've had the privilege of testing the 50lb WINCH GRINDER CASTING BRAID. I decided to test this braid on my 8000 Big Boss 3 grinder and to target a variety of species ranging from surf, to reef fishing and some scratching sessions. Right off the bat I noticed the smooth feel to the braid and the comfortable 0.28mm diameter. Even whilst slightly over filling the spool there were absolutely NO issues with wind knots during or after each cast and the thin diameter allowed for a very smooth cast which assist with those extra few meters to reach those deep sand banks. Targeting reef and scratching edibles was even more impressive as I decided not to make use of a leader and opted to go with straight braid to a fixed trace just to see how this braid holds up to some punishment. After a couple of sessions landing fish and losing sinkers between the bricks I immediately noticed the absence of ANY abrasion or damage to the braid above the swivel area despite taking some decent punishment!! And this is strong stuff!! Getting stuck and having to snap off is no easy feat which proves the strength and durability of this braided line range. WINCH GRINDER CASTING BRAID will definitely provide you with a successful fishing experience whether its surf or reef, fishing for inedibles or edibles no matter the shape or size!”

We managed to get the boat on the water on Saturday and I managed to finally put Andre Mellet's Winch Grinder Braid through its paces on a decent fish.
I have been casting with the 30lb for a while now and it has proven to be very tough and resilient on a bunch of Dorado and smaller Tuna.
This 26.1kg Yellowfin gave me a proper hard time under the boat but the braid held up very well. I was fishing with a Diawa Saltist popping rod and a Diawa Saltist 6500 grinder ( a combination I can't compliment enough).

When you get a message from an angler and you can hear the excitement in his voice- you know that the product lives up to it's standards.

Using Winch braid has really been a game changer for most anglers over the last couple of years. With that, came loads of brands, diameters, colors and prices. I have tried and fished with most, but still my reels are only filled with Winch Braid! I am super impressed with the smooth casting and strength of this braid. Easy answer when asked about distance. Reaching the far back banks or casting over the lips has never been this easy. The knot strength and overall breaking strain is mind blowing! Great abrasion resistance to bully big fish out and amongst the reefs, and super strong to pull those big toothies along the beach. It retains it's colour very well and remains a smooth, far casting and super strong braid after many, many Months of fishing. I have the utmost confidence pulling hard with Winch braid spooled on my reels.
I was recently introduced to Winch braid, a decision I'll never forget.
It's thin, durable, extremely rugged and strong and a must have for any angler, being in a social or competitive environment.
I've been using the 60lb for bigger non-edibles, man this stuff is super strong, having no issues casting those big baits either and still getting the distance.
The 40lb is a very good all round braid, fishing for small and big edibles, small to medium non-edibles but having the confidence to land that big fish when the time comes.
For light fishing tackle, one needs thinner diameter braid and it's hard to find a genuine solution.
Having a 12 year old who is besotted about fishing, one needs a reliable and affordable solution.
I gave Andre a call to find out if Winch braid was available in thinner diameters, and it was and still is.
He had some 8, 10 and 12lb options, I settled on buying the 10lb.
Well, it ticked all the boxes; was thin, at only 0.07mm, and incredibly strong. Casts well and is durable and ties a cracker knot.
Comparable to some of the most expensive braids out there and at a very affordable price. I would definitely recommend Winch braid.
We have been using Winch Braid since the start of 2021 on all of our spinning reels and as backing on most of our conventional reels.
I am very happy with how this Braid performs, it casts smoothly and knots tightly with no bulky knots. Long casts is crucial for top water fishing.
It still blows our mind how the Braid can be thinner than most on the market today, but still only break at a greater weight than advertised...it provides you with a lot of confidence in your gear when you really just have to make those few extra turns in your drag.
I was fortunate enough to land and hook a Pickhandle Barracuda while using Winch Braid on my setup. This catch broke the current World Record and I believe there will be many more exciting results in the near future.
Our overall experience with Winch Braid and Andre has been very positive.
CAMO braid fishing review
My father, Sib Du Preez, bough some braid and I must compliment you on your product.
It's absolutely amazing and very strong.
We went fishing on Friday the 9th of December on the KZN north coast.
So fishing with his 13ft precision rod and daiwa longcast reel with the 25lbs Winch CAMO he had a double circle hook trace. The hook sizes was 2/0 and 4/0 and he was fishing with chokka strips, that's when my father picked the sandy below.
Due to the setup, we couldn't just winch the fish out...with that said my father applied maximum pressure to stop it from running the reel empty.
After about a half an hour fight the sandy was tailed by myself and a couple of pics taken.
This was my fathers first sandy and he has been a long time dream for him to catch one, one day.
Not with the above mentioned rig of course.
When I landed the fish I saw that the bottom 4/0 hook snoot broke off during the fight and the top 2/0 hook foul hooked the sandy in the tail.
I suspect that more than half that fight was done with the sandy being hooked in the tail.
The measurement converted it to 21kg, and that on 25lbs line!
You have a great product!
When the Winch braid business first started, I purchased two rolls of Winchbraid, 50lb braid with 600m spool length 35lb braid with 300m spool length.
As I fish more for edibles, the 35lb is ideal as its proven time and time again how reliable and strong it is.💪
I have landed a few Diamonds of close to 50kgs in weight, with the 35lb braid
I also landed numerous Kobs. The biggest kobs weighing in at 62.4kg, 40kg and 36kg and plenty of shad rockods, cave bass, stumpies and brown skates using the same braid. My latest catch was a small duckbill of approximately 7kg
I would definitely recommend this braid, as it is extremely durable and very strong.
Attached is a photo of the reel with the original braid I bought a few years ago and even though it has lost its colour, it has most definitely not lost any of its strength.
So I’ve been using Winch Braid for a while now and certainly tested it out on some big fish; bronzies, raggies, blackrays and a thorntail.
Braid is so abrasive, strong and it’s very cost effective. I haven’t had any weird line breaks and no problems with wind knots.
I mainly use the 60lb line for the bigger fish and it’s amazing 🤩
Back in 2020 a friend gave me 100lb Winch Braid that had already been used for drone fishing. He told me that this particular braid can't break and so my fishing journey with Winch Braid began. I fished that braid very hard. I had plenty of friends and fellow fishermen, that caught their personal best on that reel, with that braid. Not once did it break, when other fisherman's fish swam over my line, winch braid would cut off their line with no damage to the braid.
After seeing what it is capable of, I just had to try the thinner winch braid and I started with the 60lb.
Filled the Gosa 25k with my first 60lb winch braid and the rest went on my grinder that I use to fish with between the rocks. It replaced the 80lb line that was on both reels. Firstly it casts much better, with way less drag in the water when fishing in the stronger seas. It doesn't fray at all and after many sessions in the worst of places it's still looks and feels brand new.
It casts like a 60lb line, is as strong as a 80lb line and is as abrasive resistance like a 100lb line.
I normally replaced my 80lb about 3 times during the shark season, I'm currently in my second season and the braid performance is exactly the same as the day I spooled the reel. Everyone fishing with me knows when I get a fish on I will pull it as hard as I can because I have all the confidence in the world in this winch braid. Personally, Winch braid is by far the best braid I've fished with. Not only is it very well priced but because it lasts so long you save a lot of money.
I would recommend it to anyone and everyone.
I have been fishing with Winch braid for the past 2 years and I am very impressed so far.
I have landed all the fish caught so far on the 35lb braid, from spinning for bonito to catching a 170kg ragged tooth shark and it held up amazingly allowing me to reel in the big raggie with ease.
I currently use the 60lb Rainbow braid for Bronze waler sharks and I have all the trust in the braid to lnock up my Slammer and pull.
Navrone Latchmigadu got his Sandy, 220cm, 60kg and a good 1 hour fight.
Huge shout out to Winchbraid, without the 60lbs abrasive resistance and strength we would not have landed this beauty.
The Sandy had us in the mussel bed for a solid 10 minutes and this braid just pulled the mussel right off, this is a must have braid and is simply amazing.
A few friends introduced Winch Braid to me three years ago.
I had high expectations of the braid and it lived up to it's name with beautiful trophy catches, where we tested Winch Braid to it's full potential.
I can say, with confidence, Winch Braid punches above it's weight and is good value for money. I have never been disappointed and now use Winch Braid in all facets of fishing.
Thank you to Martin Van Der Vyver one of Winch Braids Brand Ambassadors from East London for the review.
Winch braid is one of the most durable and strong braids I’ve ever used. It casts a mile without any wind knots. I’ve landed fairly decent skates with winch braid and I know a lot of people that have landed huge edibles and inedibles with winch braid.
Winch braid makes easy work when landing big fish. So I would definitely recommend this braid to all fishermen especially anglers who are targeting inedible species because it will make easy work to land those monsters.
1st experience with your braid was 220 lb I think on an avet fishing with Chris Ayerst who got me onto my 1st big shark .
Braid was super tough and while fighting the fish we found nicks in the line obviously something swam into it from what we could tell.
Even with the nicks in the line and another anglers braid wrapping around and getting tangled with the line we still managed to land the beautiful Zambezi.
I have been using Winchbraid for almost a year on the competitive side as well as social fishing and only have positive reviews on it. I fished the 60, 50, 40 35, 30lb braids and could not be more impressed!
Both the 60 and 50lb are really unbreakable and reliable on the bricks, and a pleasant surprise is that it cast a mile, unlike some of the thicker brands.
The lighter 40, 35, 30lb braids are awesome for the edible species or smaller non ed species, but has no problem landing the big boys. We have tested all the braids and are 110% positive about this product.
I would recommend Winchbraid to competitive and social anglers. It really is a top quality product.
Fishing with Winch Braid means we are able to go target whatever we want with confidence, whether it is from the shore of offshore. After many years of fishing with Winch Braid, we can honestly say that this braid has exceeded all our expectations and the Winch Web has not disappointed one bit. After literally over a 500 fish caught on my 40lb and going for the third season, this braid is still more than good to go for a few more seasons. The Winch Web ticks all the boxes, thin, super strong, highly abrasive and of course great value for money!
Dewald is also the official distributor for WINCH Braid in Cape Town, and is based in Blouberg.
