Dr. Winans earned a PhD in Linguistics and Applied Linguistics from Arizona State University in 2022 and an MA in TESOL from California State University, Sacramento in 2014. He currently teaches a variety of graduate, undergraduate, and English-language classes at the Rochester Institute of Technology. His research focuses on professionalization during L2 teacher education and the changing demands for language acquisition in an evolving environment for teaching and learning as inequities develop in increasingly technological and multicultural societies. He has also taught courses in language, linguistics, applied linguistics, TESOL, and writing. Further, he is invested in the academic journeys of students and teachers, which result in a wide range of fulfilling careers in and beyond academia. He has been published by Second Language Teacher Education, Language Learning & Technology, CALICO Journal, RELC Journal, and TESOL Press, among others. He is the founder and Co-Chair of Upstate CALL and the Editor of On CALL, a publication of TESOL Internationl's CALL-IS.
