In 2022, the Widow's Economic Empowerment Program (WEEP) launched a transformative initiative to uplift 6 widows in Kano, Nigeria. This program aimed to equip widows with the skills, resources, and confidence they needed to achieve financial independence and improve their overall quality of life. Let's delve into the key stages of this successful endeavor. 

To ensure that the WEEP program benefits those most in need, a rigorous selection process was implemented. Eligible widows must be residents of Kano State, have verifiable widowhood status, and demonstrate a significant financial need. Their children, enrolled in primary 5 or SS3, must also meet specific criteria, including good academic performance, motivation, attendance, and behavior. Both widows and their children must express a strong desire for economic empowerment and be willing to actively participate in the program's workshops, training sessions, and community activities. Positive recommendations from community leaders, local authorities, teachers, or school administrators are also considered when evaluating potential participants. This comprehensive selection process helps to identify widows and their children who are most likely to benefit from WEEP's support and achieve long-term success. 

Before embarking on their duties, the volunteers underwent comprehensive training. This training covered topics such as needs assessment, financial literacy, and effective communication. The goal was to equip them with the skills necessary to provide meaningful support to the widows. 

Once the volunteers were trained, they conducted thorough needs assessments with each widow. These assessments helped to identify specific challenges and goals, ensuring that the program's support was tailored to individual needs.
