Reading Groups
Our Reading Group is linked to Southampton City Council Library Service. Library staff reserve our chosen books for us each month and one designated member of the group is responsible for collecting and returning books at the correct time. The books are chosen from a list of over 150 titles, especially for book groups, supplied by the Library. In this way no one has to purchase a book each month and our Local Libraries are being supported. The aim of the group is to broaden members range of reading and to discuss views in an informal and sociable setting with discussion often leading on to other related topics.
We meet every first Tuesday afternoon of the month and each member takes it in turn to host the meeting. We each choose a title for the group to read and consequently have read a wide range of books from classic Thomas Hardy’s ‘Under the Greenwood Tree’ to 60’s classic ‘The L Shaped Room’ by Lynn Reid Banks.

WI Ladies Who Read
Ladies Who Read was re–formed a couple of years ago, as a break-away reading group from the original St.James Wi one that could not take any more members. Six of us meet in one another’s houses (or gardens in the Summer) on the first Thursday of each month at 2 p.m. It’s fairly informal, we take turns choosing what books we’d like to read and our discussions can be as diverse as some of the books. It’s usually a fun afternoon. Another one or two people would be welcome to join us as but think 8 would probably be our limit.
