We stand to promote women participation in Maritime Sector in achieving a sustainable development Goals agenda in close partnership with Government and non-Government Organization as well as the civil society in Timor-Leste.
Overview
Women in Maritime Association of Timor-Leste is founded by Ms. Lusitania Dacosta Cornelia Lopes and assisted by Ms. Elvira P. Bano, whom is currently working with the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries under JICA Project. Ms. Elvira was actively engage in capacity building for National Directorate of Maritime Transport of the Ministry of Transportation before moving to her new role.
WIMA TL is a registered Association under Decree Law no.5/2005 and launched in 2016. It is a not-for profit organization to mobilise women from various role from Maritime sector to advocate achievement of SDG 5. on Gender Equality together with the Government of Timor-Leste, the NGO’s, the civil society organization and the International Maritime Organization (through its Gender integration program). WIMA TL also aimed at building the capacity of women and men in defending the Flag State and the Port State rights defined under the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, in line with the constitutional objective of the sustainable development of Timor-Leste, particularly to implement the Road Map of Timor-Leste to achieve the SDG Goals.
WIMA-TL is currently presided by Madam Adelina Andrade who is in an active capacity as Vice-President of the Port Administration in Timor-Leste. She is assisted by all women working at the Ports and at the National Maritime Transportation Directorate of the Ministry of Transports and Communications of the Government of Timor-Leste.
WIMA TL main priority is to enhance more capacity building for women working in the Maritime Sector in Timor-Leste and to care and advocate protection of the sustainable management of Timorese Ocean resources in the future.

This is the Women in Maritime Association of Timor-Leste, we are a not for profit association supported by the Port Administration Authority of the Government of Timor-Leste. We stand to advocate women participation through advocacy and defending the Flag State and Port State rights in Timor-Leste. We have raised awareness on safety of domestic transportation of ferries for women and children using maritime transportation in Timor-Leste.
We are now campaigning to have more Timorese women and interested civil society in Timor-Leste to participate in our Maritime Administration action plan starting from Dili Port management to regulators of the National Maritime Transportation of the Ministry of Transport and Communication, Government of Timor-Leste.
Our members are disperse across maritime practitioner in Timor-Leste, involving in designing of Ocean Law & Policy, vocational training and education for sea farers and Maritime Transports officials.
Overall, WIMA TL is actively promoting other community volunteer activities in management of the marine environmental protection and prevention of ocean litters from Maritime Transports and land based pollution into the ocean of Timor-Leste.
