Racing at Lake Wilson
We are a group of folks that enjoy being outside and playing near the water! Some of us are remote control airplane or car modelers. Some of us have real sailboats or used to sail them. Some of us just like having a good time pretending to be pirates!
We sail all year with some scheduling adjustments for comfort and safety. Mostly, you will find us sailing from the dock at Lake Wilson, in Wilson, NC.
Getting started is easy, and it only takes a little time to get the hang of sailing. It’s very relaxing compared to some other RC hobbies. The controls are simple, and the boats require relatively little maintenance.
Local sailors are happy to provide advice, and you can also find many online forums on the Internet to learn more about remote control sailing.
Those with experience in RC hobbies will find it easy to add a sailboat since they likely already have all the necessary gear.
Similarly, experienced sailors will find every aspect familiar, as it's just like sailing larger boats but on a smaller scale. Despite their simplicity, the boats have all the necessary rigging and sail hardware for fine-tuning, just like larger boats.
We mostly sail at Lake Wilson, a great park in Wilson, NC. The park is a great sailing location with nearby parking, easy launching, bathrooms, picnic tables, and a 2.25 mile groomed walking trail around the lake.
