The Bachelor: The Student Voice of Wabash College Since 1908
I joined The Bachelor as a staff writer the first week of my freshman year, and have contributed to every twelve-page, weekly edition since then. Assigning, writing, and compiling each issue we continue to fuel a staple of campus culture as well as covering the COVID-19 Pandemic, January 6th Capital Attacks, and other real moments in history from off-campus. You can find full issues (here). I now serve as a section editor, working closely with staff writers to produce a polished section. My responsibilities have included copy editing, researching, photographing, and writing to publish each week.
My Work:
Bellow you'll find three pages of selected pieces of a piece I wrote as a Staff Writer and now the section that I assign, copy edit, and layout. The second two pages are from that same issue. Wabash is a school with a deep tradition, so I have had the privilege of working with the archivist of the Ramsey Archives (see bottom left of third piece) to bring a slice of history into our weekly publication.
Through my time with the publication, I have continuously attacked each opportunity with an absolute eagerness to learn. I have developed my skills and proficiency in Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator. Along side those technical skills I am always striving to better understand, analyze, and ultimately communicate, an asset, when working in any team environment.
A culmination of all those skills:
These are two pages of my published section in the 10/08/2021 issue (here). I wrote, compiled, photographed, and edited the entirety of my two page issue for this weeks issue.
The piece on the '30th Anniversary of 'shOUT' was especially memorable. A distinct moment in history, which I was fortunate to be apart of. I took photo's, had interviews, and worked with the archives to ground the piece in a very different moment of Wabash history.
