My name is Will Mostert. I'm an ex-South African that moved to New Zealand in 2001. I taught English in South Korea in 2007 - 2008. I'm teaching English and Art in Taiwan now for more than 8 years. I just started to make jewelry. I want to develop jewelry and a range for men too. My jewelry is mostly rough and uncut but still attractive and some pieces beautiful. Something for men and ladies.
I like to work with Amber, Taiwanese Honey Wax Stone and some semi-precious stones. I polished stones from Madagascar, Brazil and from the Coromandel in New Zealand. I have some jewelry made of Chinese Jade.
I will keep the prices as low as possible without losing money on it. That is a promise to you.
My artwork is mainly done in graphite and charcoal. I was born in South Africa so I love the African Animals, the so-called Big Five. I try to educate the Taiwanese about conservation of the rhino and elephants.
The original photo of Satau was taken by Dr. Johan Marais of Saving the Survivors in South Africa. Satau was sadly poached for his tusks in 2013.
This is one of my favorite drawings. I really enjoyed drawing this elephant. It took me about 50 hours to draw it. The head of the elephant, especially the detail on the trunk is the main focus. The drawing is in graphite and A2 size.
This drawing will sell for about $750 NZ. Like always I'm willing to negotiate on the price.
The majestic Cape Buffalo.
There is only one photo of this buffalo and that was a screenshot I took on my iPad while watching a life program of Safari Life. It's a National Geographic program of a life safari in South Africa.
It is a A2 size and done in graphite. It took me about 60 hours to draw this drawing. There is not only one focus point in the picture. The detail on the horns, ear, eye and hair make this drawing absolutely stunning! I rate this drawing as my best so far!
The price of the drawing is $900 NZ but of course I'm willing to negotiate.
A Sad Meal.
This original photo was taken by a friend of mine in South Africa. His name is Geo Jooste a very good wildlife photographer.
Geo told me that the leopard caught the small antelope and took it up the tree. The mother of the antelope stood under the tree and watch for some time how the leopard ate her child. Then she slowly walked away. From there the name of the drawing - A Sad Meal.
Although I'm quite happy with the end result of this drawing it was frustrating to draw. Every spot took some time to draw. Not all spots are totally dark and solid. It took me about 50 hours to draw it. It is also done in graphite and the size of the drawing is A2.
I believe this drawing will sell for about $700 NZ and like always I'm willing to negotiate.
Survival of the Fittest.
I did this drawing from a photo taken by my friend Geo Jooste in South Africa.
There is a nice piece of history involved. Three inexperienced lions attacked the female Cape buffalo. Geo and his wife was only a few meters away from the animals but he had a hard time taking photos. His wife was crying so much that the 4x4 vehicle was shaking too much! The buffalo was really crying out for help! The three lions had the buffalo later on the ground but could not kill it. About 500 buffaloes turned around and chased the lions away. The buffalo survived to live another day.
I found it very interesting to draw it. I only found out later that the buffalo survived her ordeal, so the whole time drawing I wondered what happened. In the drawing we have two of the Big Five animals. The lion and the buffalo. I tried to make the face of the buffalo the focus point. That open mouth shouting for help, that desperate look in the eye!
I apologize for the quality of the photo and will post more photos of this drawing. The drawing was valued at about $700 NZ. Of course like always I'm willing to negotiate.
Rhino horn is not Medicine!
I teach English English in Taiwan and really try to educate the Asian students that rhino horn is not medicine. This original photo was taken by Dr. Johan Marais of Saving the Survivors in South Africa.
There is a sad history about this rhino male. His name was Shrek. Shrek was taken from the wild to save him from the poachers. He hurt himself trying to get to the females in another encampment but recovered slowly. In the original photo there was a lady vet with him giving him an injection. I decided not to draw her with Shrek. He was later released in a bigger camp but was still killed for his horn! So sadly his horn still ended up somewhere in Asia.
The drawing took me about 40 hours to draw and was evaluated for about $500 NZ. It was done in graphite and is A2 size. Of course I'm willing to negotiate about the prize.
Just Playful!
I really enjoyed drawing the little lion cub. The original photo was taken by my friend Geo Jooste. I tried to show some action and speed in the drawing.
The drawing is done in graphite and the size is A2. The drawing was evaluated for about $400 NZ. Of course I'm willing to negotiate.
