Wildseen is an Android application developed by Pierre-Emmanuel Altieri ("the developer", "we"). It helps users identify and catalogue wildlife observed during walks and outdoor activities.
This document has two parts: Part A, the Terms of Service, which governsrt B, the Privacy Policy, which explains what information Wildseenprocesses. By installing or using Wildseen, you agree to both parts. If you do not agree, do not use the app.
PART A: TERMS OF SERVICE
A1. Use of the app
Wildseen is licensed to you, not sold. We grant you a personal, non-exclcable licence to install and use Wildseen on your Android devices for your own personal, non-commercial use, subject to these terms and the Google Play Terms of Service.
You agree not to: copy, modify, or distribute the app except as allowed by law; reverse engineer or decompile it except where the law expressly allows it despite this restriction; use it in a way that is unlawful or that interferes with its normal operation; or remove or bypass any premium restriction or purchase check.
A2. Species identification is an aid, not a guarantee
Identifications are produced by machine-learning models running on your device. They are estimates and can be wrong, particularly for photos that are blurry, partial, or of species the model does not know well.
Do not rely on Wildseen for any decision involving your health or safety. In particular, never use it to decide whether a plant, mushroom, or animal is edible, safe to touch, venomous, or dangerous. Wildseen is not a scientific, medical, or legal reference, and the results are not suitable for official records, reports, or surveys unless you verify them independently.
A3. Your content
The photos, notes, and observations in your collection belong to you. You are responsible for the content you add, and you confirm that you have the right to use it. We do not claim ownership of your content, and we do not receive it (see Part B).

A4. Wikipedia and third-party content
Species descriptions and images obtained from Wikipedia are provided by Wikipedia and its contributors and remain subject to their own licences (typically Creative Commons or the licence stated on the source page). The app's identification data anponents under third-party licences.
A5. Premium features and purchases
Some features, such as automatic backup to Google Drive, are premium features unlocked with a one-time purchase made through Google Play. The price is shown in Google Play before you buy. Payment, taxes, refunds, and purchase restoration are handled by Google Play under Google's terms, and not by us. A purchase is linked to your Google Play account; you can restore it on other devices signed in to the same account using "Restore purchases". We do not offer a subscription for the premium unlock.
We may improve, change, or add features. We do not promise that any specific premium feature will remain unchanged, but we will not remove the premium features you purchased without a good reason (for example a change in a third-party service, a legal requirement, or a security issue).
A6. Automatic backup to Google Drive
The Google Drive backup uploads a copy of your collection to your own Google Drive account, as described in Part B. Backups depend on third-party services (Google Play services and Google Drive), your network, your device, and available Drive storage, so we cannot guarantee that a backup will run at a given time or will succeed. Backups use your own Drive storage quota.
Keep your own copy of anything that matters to you. We are not responsibckup failed, was deleted from Drive, or could not be restored.
A7. Availability and updates
Wildseen is provided as an independent project. We may update, suspend, or discontinue the app or some of its features. Updates may be needed for the app to keep working winewer Android versions or services.

A10. Termination
You may stop using Wildseen at any time by uninstalling it. We may suspend or end your access if you seriously or repeatedly breach these terms. On termination, your licence ends, and the provisions that by their nature should continue (such as the disclaimers and limitations of liability) remain in effect.
A11. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms to reflect changes to Wildseen, its features, or legal requirements. The latest version will be published at the URL associated with Wildseen on Google Play, and the effective date above will be updated. If a change is material, we will make reasonable efforts to inform you, for example in the app or in the release notes. Using the app after a change means you accept the updated terms.
A12. Governing law
These terms are governed by French law, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. If you are a consumer, you also keep the benefit of the mandatory consumer protection rules of the country where you live, and you may bring a claim before the courts of your country of residence where the law gives you that right. PART B: PRIVACY POLICY
This Privacy Policy explains what information Wildseen processes, where it is stored, and when it may be shared with third-party services.
B1. Information processed by Wildseen
Wildseen may process the following information:
- Photos selected from the device gallery or taken with the device camera
- Species identification results
- Observation dates and times
- Location information associated with an observation
- App settings and preferences
- Premium purchase status, as reported by Google Play
- If the user enables automatic backup to Google Drive: the email addresount (stored on the device only) and a temporary access token issued by
- Technical information used for analytics, crash reporting, and app diagnostics
Wildseen does not require users to create an account and does not collect names, phone numbers, passwords, or payment details within the app. The developer does not receive the email address of the Google account used for Google Drive backup.
B2. On-device identification
Wildlife identification is performed locally on the user's device using machine-learning models based on ONNX Runtime.
Photos are not sent to Wildseen's servers or to an external artificial intelligence service for identification. The identification models may be downloaded to the device when needed and can then be used offline.
Wildseen's identification and geographic filtering processes take place on the device.
B3. Photos, observations, and location information
Photos, observation records, species identifications, dates, and associated location information are stored locally on the user's device.
Location information may come from GPS metadata embedded in a photo or from the device's approximate location when a photo does not contain location metadata.
Wildseen does not send photos or observation locations to the developer for identification or advertising purposes. The developer does not operate any server that receives users' collections.
B4. Wikipedia content
Wildseen may request species descriptions, summaries, and images from Witure is enabled.
These requests may include the name of the identified species. The request is sent to Wikipedia using an encrypted HTTPS connection. Wikipedia and its infrastructure may process technical information associated with the network request, such as an IP address, in accordance with its own policies.
Wikipedia content may be cached temporarily on the device to improve the user experience.
Wikipedia's privacy policy is available at:
https://foundation.wikimedia.org/wiki/Policy:Privacy_policy
B5. Analytics and crash reporting
Wildseen uses Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics to understand how the application is used and to identify technical problems.
These services may process information such as:
- App screens viewed and actions performed
- App version and operating system version
- Device and application information
- Performance information
- Crash reports and diagnostic information
Wildseen does not intentionally send users' photos, observation locations, the text of personal notes, or the contents of backups to Firebase Analytics or Crashlytics.
Analytics and crash reporting are enabled by default. Users can disable ettings. Disabling telemetry does not prevent the core offlineidentification and collection features from working.
Firebase processes information according to Google's applicable privacy policies. More information is available at:
https://firebase.google.com/support/privacy
B6. Backups and sharing
Wildseen allows users to export and restore their collection using an archive file.
An archive may contain:
- Photos (thumbnails, and original photos when the user chooses to inclu
- Species identifications
- Observation dates and times
- Location information
- Personal notes and other information belonging to the user's collectio
B6.1 Manual export and sharing
Users may save an archive locally, share it through the Android sharing system, or store it in a service such as Google Drive.
When a user chooses to share or upload an archive in this way, the archi selected by the user. That destination becomes responsible for storingand processing the archive under its own privacy policy and terms.
B6.2 Automatic backup to Google Drive (premium feature)
Wildseen offers an optional premium feature that automatically backs up the user's collection to the user's own Google Drive. This feature is off until the user unlocks premium and connects a Google account in the Wildseen settings.
- What is uploaded: a backup archive of the user's collection, as described above. By default the archive contains the collection data and thumbnails only. Original photos are included only if the user turns on the option to back up original photos.
- Where it goes: to the Google Drive of the Google account chosen by the user. The backup is a single file (wildseen-backup.zip) that Wildseen updates on each backup instead of creating a new file. The file is sent directly from the user's device to Google Drive. It is not sent to the developer and the developer cannot access it.
- Permission requested: Wildseen asks Google for the "drive.file" permission only. This lets Wildseen see and manage only the files it created itself. It does not give Wildseen access to the other files in the user's Google Drive.
- When it runs: in the background, at the frequency chosen by the user (daily while the phone is charging, weekly, or monthly) and when the user taps "Back up now". When
original photos are included, backups wait for an unmetered connection s is in progress, a temporary copy of the archive is kept in the app'scache on the device and is deleted when the upload finishes or is abandoned.
- Google account data: Wildseen stores the email address of the connected account on the device to show which account is connected. Access to Google Drive uses a short-lived access token provided by Google Play services and requested when a backup runs. Wildseen does not store the user's Google password.
- Data use: Wildseen uses the information received from Google APIs onlyre to the user. Wildseen does not use it for advertising and does nottransfer it to third parties. Wildseen's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
- Storage and security of the backup: once uploaded, the backup is stored and protected by Google under Google's own terms and privacy policy. Wildseen does not add its own encryption to the file. The archive can contain photos and location information, so the user should protect the Google account used.
- Disconnecting: users can disconnect their Google account at any time from the Wildseen settings. This stops all automatic backups and removes the stored account information from the device. Disconnecting does not delete the backup file from Google Drive. Users can also remove Wildseen's access at any time from their Google Account permissions page: https://myaccount.google.com/permissions
Wildseen does not access a user's Google Drive or other external storage unless the user has actively chosen a backup, export, or sharing operation, or has enabled automatic backup to Google Drive.
B7. Purchase and premium features
Premium features are unlocked with a one-time purchase made through Google Play. Payment is handled entirely by Google Play. Wildseen does not receive or store the user's
payment card or other payment details. Wildseen only receives the purchahether premium is unlocked) so it can enable the premium features.
The use of Google Play is governed by Google's terms and privacy policy.
B8. Permissions

- Approximate location, so that the application can associate an observaropriate
- Location metadata in photos, so that existing photo location information can be used
- Internet access, for Wikipedia content, telemetry services, Google Play purchases, and automatic backup to Google Drive
- Access to the user's Google Drive, requested through Google's consent reated by Wildseen, only if the user connects Google Drive backup
Permissions are requested only when they are needed, and the application explains their purpose to the user.
Wildseen does not require continuous background location access.
B9. Data retention and deletion
Wildseen does not maintain a user account or a server-side collection of observations.
Information stored locally by Wildseen can be deleted by deleting observations within the application, clearing the application's storage, or uninstalling the application.
Exported archives, files saved to the device, and the backup file in Google Drive (including copies created by automatic backup) must be deleted separately from those destinations. A user who no longer wants the automatic backup should disconnect Google Drive in the Wildseen settings and delete the file wildseen-backup.zip from Google Drive.
Information that has already been sent to Firebase, Wikipedia, or Google may be retained by those services according to their own policies and retention practices.
B10. Data security
Wildseen stores its local application data within the Android application storage environment. Network requests made by Wildseen use HTTPS where supported.
No method of electronic storage or transmission is completely secure. Users are responsible for protecting exported archives and backup files that they choose to share or
