Wild Ones Summer Camp was created to inspire the natural curiosity of children for the wild world around them. The unique experience of this camp is designed to prepare them to meet the complexities of nature with enthusiasm and courage through exploration, investigation, a development of important skills, and play.
Each summer camp session will be full of opportunities for your child to learn essential skills useful for existence in the wild. Every day will be an adventure guided by people who are passionate about the outdoors and enthusiastic about sharing that passion with every camper in a way that is meaningful as well as fun.
Campers will meet each day at base camp located near the Point Reyes National Seashore park headquarters. From base camp we will explore all the wonderful and amazing things that our natural world has to offer in this beautiful area. Each day will begin with a hike along the creek and through the forest towards the ocean. During the course of the hike, we might stop to forage edible plants, track animals, or play in creek. We will hike further each day as campers build up their hiking stamina. Once we choose our camp spot for the day, campers will participate in building a fire and cooking a locally sourced, organic mid-morning snack. Our morning will continue with different camp activities throughout the week, led by highly skilled teachers, These activities will vary throughout the summer depending on what arises out of the children’s interests, curiosity, and questions as they explore the environment. Every day will be different depending on what nature has to offer us that day as well, for example, one day we might find an interesting looking animal footprint and learn about tracking, and the next day the creek might be flowing just enough to look for frogs hiding in the mud and learn all about the water creatures.
