If you want a rugged, all-day companion with massive storage and magnetic charging for outdoor adventures, choose Wildhorn Outfitters Crank Bone Conduction; if you need waterproof durability for swimming, enhanced bass, and the latest connectivity standards, choose VLOP Bone Conduction Headphones.
• Wildhorn Outfitters Crank: Offers superior battery endurance (12 hours), built-in MP3 storage for 145 hours of audio, and Bluetooth 5.4, but lacks underwater Bluetooth functionality and has a simpler audio profile without hybrid drivers.
• VLOP Bone Conduction: Features a unique hybrid bone and air conduction system for better bass and clarity, is rated IPX8 for deep water immersion, and uses cutting-edge Bluetooth 6.0, though it offers shorter playtime (8 hours) and heavier power drain in MP3 mode.
• Best for the elderly: The Wildhorn Crank provides a more forgiving fit for sensitive ears due to its lightweight titanium frame and extended listening windows, while the VLOP excels for active seniors who swim or require clearer audio separation.
The Wildhorn Crank Sport headphones are engineered specifically for those who prioritize longevity and freedom from cables during long days outdoors. The standout feature here is the internal MP3 player capacity, which can hold over 2,500 songs or up to 145 hours of audio files. This is a game-changer for anyone who wants to leave their phone behind entirely. Whether you are hiking a long trail or simply walking around the neighborhood, the ability to carry your entire music library on the device itself means you aren't tethered to a smartphone. The battery life supports this philosophy, offering up to 12 hours of continuous playback and 15 hours of talk time, ensuring you won't be interrupted by a dying charge mid-activity.
Comfort is another pillar of the Crank's design, making it particularly suitable for users who wear glasses or have sensitive skin. The frame utilizes a titanium alloy that is exceptionally strong yet incredibly lightweight, wrapped in a premium silicone coating. This combination minimizes pressure on the cheekbones, which is critical for anyone wearing the headphones for extended periods. The open-ear design allows sound to vibrate through the cheekbones directly to the inner ear, bypassing the eardrum. This not only reduces the risk of hearing damage but also keeps the ear canal open, allowing natural ambient sounds to enter. For an elderly user who might rely on situational awareness for safety while walking, this open-ear approach is essential.

However, the Crank is not designed for submersion beyond light rain. While it boasts an IPX7 rating, meaning it can withstand heavy sweat and rain, and even submersion in water up to one meter for 30 seconds, it does not support wireless connectivity underwater. If your primary use case involves lap swimming or diving, this model will not meet your needs. Additionally, while the audio quality is solid for bone conduction, it relies on a single driver type, which means the bass response is standard for this technology. You should consider this headphone if you value battery life, storage capacity, and a secure, comfortable fit for land-based activities over underwater performance.
The VLOP Bone Conduction Headphones take a different approach by integrating a dual-driver structure that combines bone conduction vibration with directional air conduction. This hybrid system is designed to deliver clearer mids and enhanced bass compared to traditional bone conduction models. For listeners who find standard bone conduction audio too thin or lacking depth, this hybrid technology fills that gap significantly. The result is a richer listening experience that still maintains the situational awareness required for running or cycling. The inclusion of a push-button control scheme rather than touch controls also appeals to users who prefer tactile feedback, especially when wearing gloves or dealing with wet hands.
Durability is where the VLOP truly shines, boasting an IPX8 waterproof rating. Unlike the Crank, which handles rain and sweat well, the VLOP is engineered for full submersion and underwater training. The sealed internal structure allows for standalone playback in water environments, making it a viable option for serious swimmers. It features 32GB of built-in storage, which is sufficient for thousands of songs, allowing you to swim without carrying a phone. However, there is a crucial operational detail: Bluetooth does not function underwater. To listen while swimming, you must switch to MP3 mode via a triple-click of the button. Furthermore, the battery life is rated at approximately 8 hours, which is less than the Wildhorn model, and the MP3 mode consumes more power than Bluetooth streaming.
This product is ideal for active individuals who demand versatility across multiple environments, including pools and open water. The ergonomic design adapts to most head shapes and stays secure with goggles, helmets, or glasses. For the elderly user who enjoys aquatic exercise or requires a device that can handle accidental drops into water without issue, the VLOP offers peace of mind. The use of Bluetooth 6.0 ensures a stable connection on land, providing the latest in wireless efficiency. Just be aware that the hybrid system, while offering better sound, may require slight adjustments to the wearing position to ensure optimal comfort and pressure distribution during long sessions.

In my opinion, I would buy the Wildhorn Outfitters Crank Bone Conduction for general daily use, especially if the primary user is elderly. The combination of a longer battery life, massive internal storage, and a frame designed to minimize pressure makes it the safer, more comfortable choice for someone who wears the device for hours at a time. The open-ear design is perfect for maintaining safety awareness, and the lack of complex underwater modes simplifies the user experience. However, if the user specifically plans to swim regularly, the VLOP becomes the necessary choice despite its shorter battery life. For the vast majority of people looking for clip-on earbuds for elderly relatives or best true wireless earbuds for elderly users who stay on land, the Crank's balance of comfort and utility is unmatched.
Both models use bone conduction to bypass the eardrum, which can help users with certain types of hearing loss hear audio more clearly while remaining aware of their surroundings. The open-ear design is generally recommended for safety.
Only the VLOP Bone Conduction Headphones are rated for swimming with an IPX8 seal. The Wildhorn Crank is water-resistant (IPX7) and can handle rain and sweat, but it is not designed for underwater use.
Yes, both devices have built-in MP3 players. The Wildhorn holds over 145 hours of audio, while the VLOP has 32GB of storage, allowing for phone-free workouts and walks.
The VLOP likely offers better sound quality due to its hybrid bone and air conduction drivers, which provide enhanced bass and clearer mids compared to the standard bone conduction driver found in the Wildhorn Crank.
