Whether you’re starting your musical journey for the very first time or picking up where you once left off, you belong here. At Wildflower Music Lessons, growth is at the heart of everything we do. Like wildflowers, every student is unique and beautiful in their own way, blooming at their own pace as they learn and develop.
Together, we’ll build creativity and skills in a supportive, encouraging environment—because no matter where you begin, we can grow through music together. 🌼
BuBuild confidence, strengthen technique, and discover your unique voice. Vocal coaching focuses on healthy singing, breath support, performance skills, and exploring the styles you love—plus guidance in songwriting so you can start turning your ideas and experiences into original music, whether you’re a beginner or an experienced writer.
Lessons use the Faber Piano Adventures curriculum alongside favorite songs to build strong fundamentals, technique, musical expression, and performance skills. Students learn to read music, play with ease, and grow comfortable sharing their music with others.
Inspired by the “nurtured by love” philosophy, students will learn through the Suzuki Flute School approach, developing strong listening skills, tone, and technique in a supportive environment. Lessons are designed to help students grow naturally and at their own pace, while keeping flute playing fun, encouraging, and full of curiosity.
It is Emma’s joy to be a music educator. In her studio, Emma McDermott strives to create a safe, supportive, and engaging musical atmosphere where students feel inspired to grow. She grew up in a household of professional musicians and began playing instruments as soon as she could hold them. Early exposure to a wide range of genres—including classical, jazz, folk, contemporary/pop, and Celtic fusion—shaped the diverse musical styles she now shares with her students.
Throughout her journey as a musician, Emma studied at Columbia College Chicago and Belmont University before completing her studies with a BA in Songwriting from Berklee College of Music. In addition to teaching, she is an active recording and performing artist who has released a full-length album and multiple EPs, and has performed on stages across the country.
Serving the East Bay of California (Pleasant Hill, Walnut Creek, Concord, Lafayette). Please email, text or call for fees and availability. I'm looking forward to working with you!
TESTIMONIALS
My 10 year old daughter has been taking piano lessons for the past 2.5 years with Miss Emma. She has built a strong musical foundation, teaching our daughter not only how to play the piano but also how to confidently read music and understand the fundamentals of music theory. Emma’s patience, encouragement, and engaging teaching style have helped my daughter grow in both skill and confidence. We highly recommend her to anyone looking for an exceptional piano teacher!

Emma has been teaching both our children for a couple years now and has become a dear part of our lives. She brings a professionalism and strong knowledge of music, in addition to a big dose of kindness and patience. From the get go, our children were immediately comfortable with her and responsive to her suggestions and feedback. They have never once complained about her or her teaching style. Olive has noticeably improved in flute and was able to audition for the honors high school band, scoring in the upper 90s. Her tone has become richer, and she is able to play advanced pieces with a musicality that was not there before she started lessons with Emma. Obi has improved in piano, graduating from single note playing to chords and more complicated rhythms. He knows the technical terms now and has been able play with more nuance. Under Emma’s instruction, both children have developed confidence in their playing ability, as well as an affinity for instrumental music!

Emma has been incredible working with our 7-year-old son as he just started playing piano this year. She makes the classes engaging, encouraging, and so much fun. He even practices on his own and gets excited and inspired for the next class. We feel so lucky to have found Emma and are so excited for our other son to start lessons with her soon! Thank you Emma!
