We want fair pay and fair treatment
Oakland teachers are among the lowest-paid in the Bay Area. OUSD has consistently chosen to spend disproportionately on outside consultants and administrative employees at the expense of teacher salaries and classroom learning. Meanwhile, the expansion of charter schools in our city pulls needed funds from public classrooms.
When teachers are paid too little to live in our city, and when class sizes are too large for teachers to spend meaningful time with every student, OUSD is setting students up to fail. This is unacceptable.
