Privacy policy

Wild Vault (“the App”) respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what data the App handles and how it is used. 

1. Data Collection

Wild Vault does not collect personal data.

The App only processes the following types of data:

• photos selected or imported by the user

• user-created metadata such as keywords, ratings, and species assignments

• application settings required for proper functionality
  
  

All data is stored locally on the user’s device

2. Photos and Media Access

Wild Vault requires access to the user’s photo library in order to:

• allow the user to select, organize and display their own photos

• allow Wild Vault to observe selected albums (while the app is used) to ease photo import

• read photo metadata (e.g. EXIF information)
  
  

The App:

• does not upload photos or any metadata to external servers

• does not share photos or any metadata with third parties

3. Data backup

The user can create a backup file, that contains all metadata created in Wild Vault. They are free to save it locally or send it anywhere, but Wild Vault does not make any copy of it, and does not upload it anywhere

4. Third-Party Services and internet usage

Wild Vault:

• does not use analytics or tracking services

• does not display advertisements

• does not share data with third parties

Wild Vault uses the iNaturalist web API to let the user search for species and download relevant species data. These data are stored locally afterwards. Currently, there is no way to manually add a species, so adding any new species requires internet connection; downloading new species data also requires internet connection, such as adding new translations when changing the languages in the settings.
Outside of these use cases, the app is completely offline.

Wild Vault also uses the Facebook SDK solely to enable the Facebook sharing feature. This allows users to share selected photos through Facebook’s official sharing interface. The Facebook SDK is not used for advertising, analytics, or tracking purposes.
Any interaction with Facebook occurs only when the user explicitly chooses to use the sharing feature.

Facebook may collect information in accordance with its own privacy policy when the sharing feature is used. 

5. Data Deletion

Users can:

• delete their data within the App at any time

• remove the App to delete all locally stored data

6. Changes to This Policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time. Changes take effect with App updates, and a change log will be maintained with the date of change, the change and the app version which introduces it.
