At the core of our initiative lies a meticulously crafted product designed to align with the overarching high-level UNDP Data Strategy. This innovative solution serves as a localization response at the Country Office Level, reflecting our commitment to tailored, context-specific approaches. Developed in collaboration with UNDP's M&E division, our knowledge management system, accompanied by an online platform, represents a transformative leap in data utilization and management.


My Role: Creator and Product Designer
At the forefront of the UNDP Knowledge Management System, I took the initiative by identifying knowledge management challenges, leading the design of a user-friendly and adaptable digital solution. Serving as both the driving force and Project Manager, I played a pivotal role in building and managing the team, recruiting talent, and effectively mobilizing funds. My role extended beyond project management, serving as the crucial link between management, end-users, and the technical team by overseeing and managing the entire process. This holistic engagement underscores my key contributions in conceiving, designing, managing, and implementing the UNDP Knowledge Management System, showcasing a commitment to professional innovation and effective data management practices.

1. Knowledge Sharing (Gatekeeping) and Change Resistance:

   - Solution: The Floating Structure addresses challenges related to knowledge resistance and gatekeeping, which impede efficient knowledge and information utilization, leading to data quality concerns. The software establishes an overarching mechanism for seamless data flows and management. It acts as a whistleblower, alleviating the burden from employees within the challenging organizational culture. This strategic approach manages dynamics between country offices, the main office, and field offices, ensuring smoother knowledge dissemination while respecting organizational sensitivities.

2. Reporting Lags and Knowledge Utilization Barriers:

   - Solution: The product tackles issues related to reporting lags and barriers in knowledge utilization by creating a centralized hub for all UNDP data and knowledge products. It provides a platform for collaborative conversations with all stakeholders simultaneously, streamlining information flow and fostering efficient communication across the organization.

- Delivered over 10 public addresses to UNDP global networks and partners through  multiple community of practice meetings.

Origami Structure

Product Label: ERP Software for resource optimization and decision making support
 

Central to UNDP is a robust knowledge management strategy, this end-to-end solution is designed to address delivery challenges and optimize resource utilization and productivity. Developed with both a mobile and web app, seamlessly integrated into Quantum, this solution has become a cornerstone for the Exploration team since its inception in 2020 by the UNDP Accelerator Lab Sudan.

My Role: Creator and Product Designer
In my dual capacity as the Product Designer and Project Manager, my responsibilities encompassed identifying challenges, developing the digital solution, and validating it with stakeholders. Additionally, I oversaw fund mobilization, team recruitment and management, and budget oversight, ensuring a seamless integration of design and operational aspects. My hands-on approach during scaling and testing aimed at enhancing the product's resilience and adaptability across diverse scenarios, resulting in a solution that effectively meets expectations.

Problem statement: Declining Funds and Increased Competition for Resources in the Development Field

- Origami Structure Solution: The Origami Structure addresses the challenges posed by declining funds in the development field, intensified by various global political and economic events. In a landscape where available funds are increasingly competitive, efficient resource mobilization becomes paramount. This product leverages existing data from finance, HR, and project management to optimize resource utilization—both human and financial. The Origami Structure aids managers in identifying talent within large organization, facilitating cost-sharing and cross-sharing of talent, services, and equipment to maximize efficiency and impact in the face of challenges and needs. It significantly cuts down operational costs and overheads, evidenced by a 30% cost reduction in the pilot trial. Moreover, in its first trial, it has increased overall and individual performance for employees by an average of 25%, enhancing overall delivery and job satisfaction. The Origami Structure stands as a transformative solution for resource optimization in the dynamic landscape of development work. Results and knowledge from the products deployment provides useful insights for fund mobilization.

In my capacity as a management consultant, I spearheaded a case for the Tadamon Poverty Alleviation joint initiative between UNDP and the Islamic Development Bank. My role involved performing an extensive situational analysis, addressing challenges, and ultimately creating, designing, and presenting a comprehensive portfolio of digital solutions.

Crisis Risk Dashboard (CRD) 

  Product Label: Integrated features


CRD is an established UNDP (Crisis Bureau) product of which I led the development of embedded features tailored to fit M&E needs for two UNDP portfolios, Peacebuilding and Stabilization. The system development, endorsed by donors and UNDP partners, assists in partnership management, donor relations, and communication. It includes screenshots of work done on CRD localization and indicators' gap analysis.

My Role: Creator and Product Designer
I oversaw the development of the requested embedded features, managing the entire process with a focus on stakeholder engagement, donor relations, and communication. The product development was initiated in response to a request from UNDP portfolios. Features were designed, tested, and subsequently handed over to the portfolios for adoption and deployment. However, ongoing war in Sudan has disrupted our support for deployment, further testing, and piloting.


 

Health Pulse

Product Label: AI powered Health services and analytics App 

This community-based health surveillance system, co-designed with UNDP Health Portfolio and Sudan’s Federal Ministry of Health, is tailored for urban health monitoring, epidemic detection, and crisis response, addressing data lags in health and humanitarian programming and offering customizable solutions for community health needs. The system underwent a 3-month pilot before being disrupted by the ongoing war in Sudan.

My Role: Creator and Product Designer
I played a crucial role in initiating the development of the community-based health surveillance system. My responsibilities encompassed identifying entry points in health programming in Sudan, effective partnership management, and pivotal contributions to both product design and accompanying processes. Throughout the project's lifecycle, I led comprehensive project management, including recruitment, team building, delivery, fund mobilization and management, and testing.

I led the conduction of this nation wide Public Perception Survey as part of UNDP Sudan's support to the Prime Minster's Office and Central Bureau of Statistics  in gathering insights, informing decision-making, and shaping policies based on public sentiment and expectations. This is the print rough-cut version of the report; please be aware that an interactive version has also been developed.

My Role:  Project Manager
I identified the entry point and the need for the detection of public pulse by different stakeholders. I formulated the project design and led the operations and partnerships,  ensuring a comprehensive approach to achieve set expectations and objectives.

Digital Avatar
Product Label: Country-Specific Dashboard

The Digital Avatar, a customizable real-time monitoring dashboard, has been developed to showcase the country's key performance indicators by integrating data from various sources. This innovative project, spearheaded by UNDP Sudan in collaboration with UNRCO and Sudan's Central Bureau of Statistics, is tailored to meet the specific needs of the country. Screenshots from the dashboard are included, and the Digital Avatar is currently undergoing localization in Egypt. The system underwent a 6-week experiment before being disrupted by the ongoing war in Sudan.

My Role: Project Manager
As the project manager, I oversaw team recruitment, budget management, and relationship building within the team and with external partners. My hands-on approach included overseeing personnel, survey design, and ensuring quality control. I initiated and led the project, identifying the need for detecting public sentiment and playing a key role in designing the methodology. I collaborated with various partners, including government entities, donors, UN agencies, NGOs, and multiple data sources and providers, to bring together the digital product.
