This privacy policy explains how SpeedMaster - WiFi Speed Test ("we", "our", or "the app") collects, uses, stores, and protects information when you use our application on Android devices. We are committed to being transparent about our data practices and to protecting your privacy in accordance with applicable data protection laws and the Google Play policies. By using this application, you agree to the practices described in this policy. If you do not agree, please discontinue use of the application.
Information we collect and why
The app collects certain types of information to deliver its core functionality. We do not collect any personally identifiable information such as your name, email address, phone number, or any account credentials. Below is a complete description of the information the app accesses.
Network and connectivity information: The app reads information about your current network connection, including whether you are connected via WiFi or mobile data, your WiFi network name (SSID), signal strength, link speed, operating frequency band, and local IP address. This information is used solely to display your connection details on screen and to label speed test results with the network type used at the time of testing. This data is never transmitted to our servers and remains entirely on your device.
Speed test measurement data: When you initiate a speed test, the app sends and receives data to and from Cloudflare's publicly available speed test infrastructure located at speed.cloudflare.com. During a download test, up to 50 megabytes of test data is downloaded from Cloudflare's servers. During an upload test, randomly generated data is uploaded to Cloudflare's servers. During the ping and jitter test, lightweight HTTP requests are sent to measure round-trip latency. No personal information is included in these test requests. The purpose of communicating with Cloudflare's servers is purely to measure your internet connection speed. Test history and results: All speed test results including download speed, upload speed, ping, jitter, minimum latency, average latency, maximum latency, peak download, peak upload, test duration, network type, network name, server name, and timestamp are stored locally on your device using a Room database. This data is never uploaded to any remote server or shared with any third party. You have full control over this data and can delete individual results or all history from within the application.
Application preferences: The app stores your preferences locally on your device using Android's DataStore. These preferences include your chosen theme (dark, light, or system default), your selected display language, your preferred speed unit (Mbps, MB/s, or KB/s), and whether auto-save of test results is enabled. These preferences are not transmitted to any external server.
Diagnostic information: The network diagnostics feature performs local connectivity checks, including verifying internet connectivity, testing DNS resolution, and measuring ping and packet loss. These checks are performed using system-level network APIs and HTTP connections to publicly reachable endpoints. No diagnostic results are transmitted to us or any third party. The results are displayed locally and are not stored permanently unless you take explicit action.
Location information: The app requests location permission from your device. This permission is required solely by the Android operating system to read your WiFi network name (SSID). Starting from Android 8.1, Google enforces that the ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION permission must be granted for an app to access WiFi SSID information. The app does not track your physical geographic location, does not record your GPS coordinates, and does not use location for any purpose beyond enabling WiFi network name display. If location permission is not granted, the app will still function normally but will display a generic label such as "Connected WiFi" instead of your actual network name.
How we use the information
We use the information described above only to operate the core features of the application. Speed test results are used to display your historical performance data, generate analytics and trend charts, and allow you to compare past results. Network information is used to display your current connection status on the home screen and to annotate test results. Application preferences are used to maintain your chosen settings between app sessions. None of the information collected by the app is used for advertising, profiling, behavioral tracking, or any purpose beyond delivering the stated app functionality.
Data storage and retention
All data collected by the app is stored exclusively on your device. We do not operate any servers that receive or store your data. Speed test results remain on your device until you delete them manually or uninstall the application. Application preferences are cleared automatically when you uninstall the app. Because all data is stored locally, it is protected by Android's standard application sandboxing, which prevents other applications from accessing your data without your explicit consent.
Data sharing and disclosure
We do not sell, rent, lease, or share your data with any third party. The only external communication that occurs is the network traffic to Cloudflare's speed test servers during a speed measurement, which contains only the test payload data and standard HTTP headers. No personal information is included in this traffic. We do not integrate any advertising networks, analytics SDKs, or user tracking libraries. We do not use Firebase Analytics, Google Analytics, Crashlytics, or any similar data collection service. If required by applicable law or a valid legal process, we may be required to disclose information, but since we do not collect or store any personal data on our own servers, there is no personal data we could disclose.
Third-party services
The app uses Cloudflare's publicly available speed test API (speed.cloudflare.com) to perform internet speed measurements. This is a publicly accessible service and the communication consists only of standard HTTP download, upload, and HEAD requests for measurement purposes. We are not affiliated with Cloudflare. We also use Google Play's in-app update API to check for and prompt app updates. This interaction follows Google Play's standard update flow and is governed by Google's privacy policy. No additional personal data is shared with Google beyond what is standard for any Android app communicating with Google Play services.
Children's privacy
This application is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children. Since the app does not collect personal information from any user regardless of age, there is no specific risk to children's privacy. If you believe a child has provided personal information through this app, please contact us so we can investigate, though we believe this is not technically possible given the app's design.
Your rights and choices
Because all data is stored locally on your device, you have full control over it at all times. You can delete individual speed test results from the history screen. You can clear all stored data by clearing the application's data through Android's Settings application. You can revoke location permission at any time through Android's Settings, and the app will continue to function with a generic network name label. You can disable auto-save of test results from within the app's settings screen. You can change your theme, language, and speed unit preferences at any time. Uninstalling the application will remove all locally stored data from your device.
Security
The app does not transmit personal data over the network, which significantly reduces security risk. All local data is protected by Android's standard application isolation mechanisms. Test traffic to Cloudflare is conducted over HTTPS, which provides encryption in transit for that communication. We follow Android security best practices in the app's implementation.
Changes to this privacy policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time to reflect changes in the app's functionality or applicable laws. When we make changes, we will update the effective date at the top of this document. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of the app after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
