Unless the mobile device has some kind of protection on it then it would have to be the network on the hotspot but since you tried different devices that seems less likely. Maybe try to reflash the RS2? I would send a full system report to support@emlid.com and they will get you taken care of. Make sure to keep us updated though.

Only way I can get it to work is,

turn off auto join on all other networks in iphones list

connect to RS2 hot spot

use rv2 or 3, select your stored, manually entered phone hotspot click join

do the mad race to turn on your phones hotspot

wait and hope it connects.

Could you clarify what model do you have? If you have iPhone 12 series, you need to enable Maximize compatibility option on its Personal hotspot page. This will switch its hotspot to 2.4 GHz and ensure connection to the device.

When in range of a hotspot, look for the xfinitywifi or XFINITY SSID (network name) in the list of available networks on your device. Check the hotspot location map in the Xfinity app (on the WiFi tab) or the online map.

To connect automatically to secure Xfinity WiFi Hotspots and get the best WiFi experience, download the Xfinity app on your device. The app gives you access to the newest security features (where available) in addition to providing automatic sign in and helping you find hotspots.

For the best experience, download the Xfinity app. The app will download and install the Xfinity WiFi secure profile, providing you access to secure hotspots and allowing your device to automatically connect to Xfinity WiFi Hotspots in the future without having to sign in each time.

I'm trying to get Win10 Mobile Hotspot to work, using Lenovo P70 laptop which is ethernet cable connected to a router/modem/internet. I want to share its wired ethernet connection, via the Win10 Mobile Hotspot functionality, so that nearby devices (phones, other laptops, etc.) can connect via WiFi to the P70, sharing the P70's wired ethernet connection to the internet. Same concept as using mobile hotspot functionality on a smart phone, to provide internet via Wifi (to the phone's hotspot functionality) to nearby laptops, tablets., etc.

In other words BitDefender Firewall IS doing what it is supposed to do, namely to protect arbitrary client devices from connecting to my "defended" PC's WiFi Hotspot without my knowledge or authorization. Unfortunately, this type of connection requires DHCP (from the hotspot default gateway, i.w. IP 192.168.137.1) because devices like phones and laptops depend on being assigned an IP dynamically when connecting to a "hotspot", rather than connecting through a manually assigned static IP address. That means BitDefender can really do all-or-nothing. Either it PREVENTS/BLOCKS ALL external devices from making use of Hotspot, or it ALLOWS ALL external devices to connect.

So, after adding the following firewall exception rule the problem was 100% solved. Mobile Hotspot now works perfectly, and both my phone and second laptop are now connected through the hotspot provided by the primary laptop which is ethernet cable-connected to the router/internet.

That's a little vague. Presumably, your wireless devices could

connect directly to the hotspot, and a wireless bridge could let you

connect otherwise-wired-only devices to the hotspot. I see no real

need to "make a network" using another router. But I'm always open to a

good counter-argument.

I haven't tried it, so I know nothing, and I'm not convinced of the

wisdom of using a router to "make a network" and hiding it behind

another router (the hotspot), but you could try configuring one R7000 as

a wireless bridge (to connect wirelessly to the hotspot), and one as a

router for your new "a network" (with its WAN/Internet port connected to

a LAN port on the R7000-as-bridge).

Scott,

I have a Verizon jetpack that works 100% of the time. Oddly enough I can use my Google Pixel 2 XL as a hotspot but I can not use it to connect the the Reach unit (ie 192.168.42.1). It just will not work.

So the process that worked was - enable hotspot on phone. Use tablet to connect directly to rover wifi. Then use tablet to tell rover to connect to mobile hotspot. Then connect tablet wifi to mobile hotspot. Then open Reachview app and connect to rover. So Rover is using mobile hotspot for mobile data and tablet is connected to rover via mobile hotspot.

This seems to be an awkward workaround having to use an extra device. I had expected from instructions available, for rover to automatically connect to known mobile hotspot, and for Reachview via mobile to be able to connect to rover.

Android phones have a handy feature that allows you to share your cellular connection with other devices, turning any phone into a Wi-Fi hotspot. In many situations, this can be a lifesaver. If you own a 5G Chromebook, like the Acer Chromebook Spin 714, or a 5G tablet, like the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra, getting online isn't a problem. But for many other devices requiring the internet, you need a secure connection to a Wi-Fi source or be plugged in directly.

There's an easy way to share your phone's cellular signal to open a secure, stable Wi-Fi connection. Google allows any Android phone to turn into a handy Wi-Fi hotspot, which allows any device (like a Chromebook) to connect with Instant Tethering. So, to help users get started on this convenient feature, we devised a guide demonstrating how to turn any Android phone into a Wi-Fi hotspot.

You can create a Wi-Fi hotspot with your Android phone to share your internet with other devices that lack mobile connectivity. If you can't or don't want to use Wi-Fi, connect a USB cable or try Bluetooth tethering instead.

You can use this feature to share the internet via mobile data and Wi-Fi from your phone. However, you'll need to turn on mobile data on your Android device for it to appear on the Chromebook. After you're connected, turning off your mobile data doesn't disconnect your devices.

If you forgot to do something at the office, you might be able to fix something before it's a problem by connecting your work laptop to an Android hotspot while you're between locations. This is safer than using a public Wi-Fi connection that might not be secure. Beyond personal use, you might save the day by sharing your Android phone's mobile internet as a Wi-Fi hotspot.

Google don't recommend it but you can absolutely connect it to a Wi-Fi hotspot or travel router with an in-built SIM card type solution. Google estimate it uses 50 MB/week upload and 50 MB/week download on average.

I'm trying to play a video game with my friends that requires a local wifi network that allows UDP broadcasts. The dorm wifi doesn't allow UDP broadcasts, so I'm trying to set up my laptop as a hotspot. Windows 10 by default allows you to share an internet connection over wifi, but you must have an internet connection to do so. Sharing the wifi connection results in a lot of problems such as constant disconnects, and I don't have access to an ethernet connection to share. Is there some way I can set up a wifi network without actually sharing an internet connection?

4.) After that run the command, netsh wlan start hostednetwork, to start the "Hotspot" broadcast. Right now you can play without internet connection after all devices connect. Remember to check IP addresses of all your individual devices in order to connect to each other. The hotspot's IP Address usually is "192.168.137.1".

Regardless of whether you have a 4G or 5G handset, at its essence, a hotspot is a blend of software, hardware, and back-end network data services that work together to transform your phone into the equivalent of a broadband modem and router. In other words, it can create a Wi-Fi network to distribute a web connection to nearby devices.

Regardless of which generation phone and network you are using, a VPN can build a stronger wall around your communications by adding an extra layer of AES 256-bit encryption. But this security does often come at the cost of performance. Between the phone and the clients connecting through it, recent phone hotspots use the password-protected WPA3 standard.

The major business mobile phone plans with hotspot data at Verizon are Unlimited Start 2.0, Unlimited Plus 2.0, and Unlimited Pro 2.0. All include unlimited mobile hotspot use and give you the best price if you sign up for paper-free billing and autopay.

I am using Ubuntu 22.04.1 LTS desktop. I want to share the ethernet connection via wifi hotspot on my laptop. After turning on the hotspot, I am not able to connect any device from the hotspot, it shows that the network is saved.

I tried setting the security of the hotspot to none using nm-connection-editor, but it hasn't worked. I changed the password using network manager but still when I turn on the hotspot, it asks to enter the password, or else it generates the password on its own (It automatically changes the setting in the network manager when I turn on the hotspot i.e. it automatically resets the setting in network manager). In the mobile it shows a plus sign over the lock in wifi (a have attached the screenshot of it). Please give me a solution.

You can try using different Wi-Fi security protocols to see if any of them work. Also check if you can connect your Ubuntu box to a mobile hotspot via Wi-Fi, if not, try via USB cable. Chances are it's a broader Linux issue. Linux often has problems with proprietary drivers as a result of the proprietary business practices of the industry. My box, nor laptop, running the same version of up-to-date Ubuntu cannot connect to mobile hotspot nor WPA & WPA2 Enterprise networks. It can only connect to the mobile hotspot when using a USB cable. It can see the wifi network just fine but when trying to connect, it starts looping the password prompt window. It's an indication that Linux is unable to get the correct settings from the router. I have none of these issues on Windows side. You should really ask this question at the Linux kernel dev forums. Ubuntu is a reliable distro using standard kernel drivers and network tools so I doubt this is a Ubuntu-only issue. ff782bc1db
