Widowed Friendship Group
Thriving Together in the South Bay from El Segundo to San Pedro
We are a non-profit community group formed to help widows and widowers embrace the next part of their lives. We have all wondered where to go next, how to spend our time, how to learn and do new activities, how to form new friendships - how to re-invent ourselves.
Most of our members first met in grief clinics and, when we decided we had to become whatever we would be now, we looked around and found no resources. Four founding members put together a group and invited others through a newspaper ad. More than forty people attended the first meeting, showing us we were needed in the communities we serve.
Mission and Vision
The mission of the Widowed Friendship Group is to offer opportunities to thrive to widows and widowers in our community. Our vision is to create programs to assist our members and the surrounding community through activities and education that address the needs of our membership.

We are the #Widowed Friendship Group (WFG). Our members live in the "South Bay" from Santa Monica to Huntington Beach. Most of our events are in the Torrance, Palos Verdes Peninsula and the beach cities.
The WFG has monthly meetings, happy hours, parties at members homes and special event parties. It also has salons formed for special interests. Currently, there are several active salons. These are all opportunities to get to know new people. There have been many wonderful conversations and sharing of experiences at these gatherings. Many of us have bonded with others and feel much more support in our lives. We have also found that traveling together creates new friendships, gives us new shared experiences and gets us back out there. Whatever you think you need, you can find it with the WFG.
Our Play Day Salon meets twice a month to play board games in a local park..
Our Thriving Together Salon brings us together to share healthy living choices.
Our TechSoup Salon meets monthly to explore and discover all the wonders on our electronics. This Salon makes your life easier. It's fun and so very helpful!.
Our Celebrating Holidays Together Salon was formed to be sure our members were not alone on Holidays.
Our Moving Forward Salon meets each month so that members can express themselves and hear from other new friends discussing those things that affect us in our new role. Not only do we hear others' insights, we have an opportunity to work out insecurities in a safe environment. It's a wonderful opportunity to get to know each other better.
Our Walking with Friends Salon meets monthly to stroll the Redondo Beach Esplanade.
Our Happy Hours attract many members who like to gather around the table for drinks, food and friendship. We alternate our locations for convenience to our members.
Our home parties are also very popular. We have a party team to help our hosts with food and drinks, as well as set up and clean up.
Our Travel Salon meets only four times a year and goes on trips 10 to 12 times a year. If you like traveling and are looking for travel mates, this is the place. We do one-day excursions, two-to-four night road trips within driving distance, and also book longer, more distant vacations. The trips are coordinated by members of the salon. It's where deeper friendships are born!
