Wireless Communications and Networks Lab (WHYNET)
The Department of Computer Engineering, Chosun University (South Korea) has multiple openings for the 2024 fall and 2025 spring semesters Graduate Student Research Assistant. It is available to national and international students interested in pursuing a Master or Ph.D. degree in Computer Engineering.
Chosun University, one of the top universities in the nation, has built sister relations with several outstanding international universities. Chosun is using the knowledge and experience gained over the past 77 years to move forward towards a better, brighter future. Chosun University aims to nurture talented students who can contribute to national and international welfare through providing opportunities of intensive academic research, teaching, and public service based on national educational ideals and the established ideals at our university.
Research Team Description
Wireless Communications and Networks Lab (WHYNET LAB) of the Chosun University is focused on Artificial Intelligence (AI) -based solutions for traditional wireless communication technologies. In a broader sense, the research at WHYNET is taking advantage of AI techniques to prepare current technologies for the next-generation wireless communication systems. Another aspect of the research is to ensure the users privacy when they outsource their privacy sensitive data either to avail computational resources or for collaboration in both centralized and distributed paradigms.
Research Areas
The MS/Ph.D. positions are targeted at the following topics including (but not limited to) possible research directions:
Semantic Communication
High data rate image communication system
Leveraging transfer learning and incremental learning for Knowledge Base design in semantic communication
Privacy-preserving Machine Learning (PPML)
Cryptographic approach towards PPML
End-to-end communication system design for PPML schemes
Deep learning-based communication system design
DL-based channel estimation techniques
DL-based constellation design for modulation techniques
Channel modeling (based on Generative Adversarial Network (GAN) and Reinforcement Learning (RL)) for DL-based end-to-end communication system
Wireless Communication Systems
AI-based IoT Connectivity Controls
AI-based resource allocation schemes in wireless communication systems
Low power communication protocols for body area sensor networks
Network Security and Privacy Techniques
Design of routing protocols (preferably, the design should be based on AI) to achieve a better tradeoff between source location privacy and energy efficiency in wireless sensor networks
Note: For topic (1) and (2), knowledge of basic image processing and computer vision techniques is beneficial. For topics (1) – (4), knowledge of DL algorithms such as autoencoders, GANs, RLs is beneficial. For topic (5), knowledge of unsupervised machine learning techniques such as clustering, and graph neural network is beneficial.
