when i try to open most of my excel files in dropbox, they indicate that the preview can't be displayed and they show the format as .xlsx. i have tried to use the "open with" button to change the extension to .xls, but it won't let me, and i can't save the files either. this is new - does it have to do with a microsoft version or an update?

Curious thing here & have spent the last hour troubleshooting without luck. I was working on a S123 form earlier in the afternoon, editing and publishing, adjusting the form w/o any trouble, and out of the blue - Excel won't open and hangs at "Opening SOLVER.XAML (100%)". I can't kill it via task manager because it's not in the list of applications running.

I haven't heard of an issue opening Excel in the way you describe. Could I ask that you try dialing the Solver Add-in (File > Options > Add-Ins > Manage Add-Ins > uncheck Solver and click OK) and see if this still occurs?

We are trying to have a shared excel document that works similarly to Google Sheets, and that works fine in the Office365 web version obviously, but is there a way to get it working in the desktop application?

This solution was taken from " -us/msoffice/forum/all/how-do-i-open-a-specific-excel-file-through-vba-in/19201a70-6afe-4799-96bf-521cc6020718". I tested it just now and it worked, let me know if you run into issues.

It would be better to store the Excel file in SharePoint or OneDrive and instead link to that file in Asana. Therefore, clicking on the attachment will open Excel 365 in your browser where you can make edits directly (along with other members, at the same time) which will be saved instantly & automatically.

Hey guys been using the report generation toolkit for years to write out simple reports and files. All of the sudden the report generation toolkit can't open Excel to start dumping data. Now all my tools don't work anymore. It actually gives error "Report Generation Toolkit: Microsoft Word or Excel did not open. Make sure Microsoft Word or Excel is installed.". I suspect some sort of update from IT as the culprit as it has happened in the past. Anyone knowledgeable enough to help/ know how to troubleshoot? Something as simple as this doesn't work.

Also there seems to be a problem that by default the ActiveX components only get registered for the bitness the whole Office package is in, despite that ActiveX would be perfectly able to marshal its calls across bitness borders through out of process marshalling, if it was only registered correctly for both Win64 and Wow6432. So if you install Office 64-bit you can't by default open it in LabVIEW 32-bit. I'm not sure what exactly needs to be done to make it work across bitness. I did search it out in the past for an ERP application we used company internal and it worked but had some strange effects. We since moved to the cloud version of that app, so the entire hack is obsolete.

Occasionally an update to Office automation methods (adding a parameter to an ActiveX method) will break one or more Report Generation toolkit VIs. The answer for that is generally just to open the broken VI's BD, relink the method invocation node, and re-save the VI. This is a legitimate reason (one of a very few legitimate reasons, IMO) to modify a standard library VI.

But as I described in that other thread I linked to, recent Office 16 patches just seem to end up with a broken ActiveX interface - well below toolkit level, you just can't open a reference to Excel._Application without an error thrown. So far, the "Office Quick Repair" seems to speedily correct the problem.

I know I can import the data into a new worksheet etc. but I'm asking specifically for a help with situation where I already have a CSV file with commas in it and I want to open it in Excel without creating new workbook or transforming the original file.

E.g. if, say, Outlook uses tab-separated CSVs for importing/exporting contacts, and you receive such CSVs from an outside source (Gmail, another computer, whatever...), then changing this system-wide setting could prevent Outlook from opening these tab-separated CSVs.

I know that an answer has already been accepted, but one item to check is the encoding of the CSV file. I have a Powershell script that generates CSV files. By default, it was encoding them as UCS-2 Little Endian (per Notepad++). It would open the file in a single column in Excel and I'd have to do the Text to Columns conversion to split the columns. Changing the script to encode the same output as "ASCII" (UTF-8 w/o BOM per Notepad++) allowed me to open the CSV directly with the columns split out. You can change the encoding of the CSV in Notepad++ too.

With the newer Excel version 2010 you can open (menu: File, Open, or control-O) a .CSV file as a text file. Then, you directly get the wizard, just as easy as with LibreOffice Calc, where you can select the correct field delimiter.

This only works with files with the proper .CSV extension. My app was to produce CSV output with a .ACC extension, and trying to open that in excel with the method above, leads you to completely different excel corners :-(

I have a spreadsheet sent to me (and saved to my local drive). When I attempt to open it, either by a double click or by opening Excel, then opening the file, it appears to open but all I get is a blank Excel window as you can see in the image below.

So, you are using Power BI? In reading your original post I was assuming that this was an Excel only thing. Are you saying that in Power BI, when the user uses "Export to Excel" they are getting a Protected View excel sheet? As in, Password Protected or just the "Enable Editing" option on the top of the Excel form?

Use this extension for bulk editing work items, or to leverage Excel tools to analyze and visualize a large number of work items. Work items that are opened in Excel can be edited and published back to Azure DevOps with a single click. Once you are ready to publish your changes, simply hit "Publish" from Excel to sync your changes back to Azure DevOps. Learn more about Office integration

To access an entire query, navigate to Work > Queries, select the query you would like to open and use the right-click option in the context menu to "Open in Excel". You can also click the "Open in Excel" button available on the Queries toolbar as well.

I am having a CAD table linked to an Excel file by Data Link. When I try to open the Worksheet, selecting a cell or range of cells on my table and doing right click>Data Links>Open Data Link File... Civil 3D gives me an error.

Calc v4.0.3.3 has no issue opening Excel: Mac 2011 XLSX files with charts on separate sheets. As I indicated, you can also create charts on a separate sheet in Calc. Is the issue related to supporting XLSX or enhancing Calc? I ask because it would already seem to do both.

I'm trying to open excel workbook with table in Power BI. When i open it from local files i get 2 options - import or upload. I upload and workbook opens. But when i open the same workbook from onedrive i get only option - Connect and workbook is imported as dataset but i need it as workbook table ?

I'm trying to open a file (literally any file) with Excel 2016 on my computer, but the only options are to open with the Box desktop app or with Excel Online. How do I add my actual Excel app to the list of options?

Box Edit uses the default application installed on your computer to open and editfiles: Docx files open in Microsoft Word, PPTx files open in Microsoft PowerPoint, Xlsx files open in Excel, and so forth.

Also, I'm not sure if this is related but some of my collaborators are starting to have issues with not being able to save files when opened up from their sync file. The files which are suppose to be synced are giving a read only error when they click the save button. It is wanting to force them to change the file name rather than save over previous versions. No permissions have been changed in our admin console.

I was having the same problem with suddenly not being able to open any of the MS Office documents (Word, Excel, Power Point) with the respective MS Office programme... the only option I was given was to open the document using the "online" programme. This was when I was while using the standard internet web browser. I have subsequently discovered that if I use Google Chrome then all the functionality of the Box Edit tools becomes available and I can now open the documents using the MS Office programs on my computer.

Correct, no "Open With" option for all microsoft and adobe software. I can still open the files when navigating from the program, it's just a pain in the butt when making changes to many files. Instead I'm getting "Excel online" or "Adobe Sign" as my options, which isn't what I need. Thanks!

A few days ago this worked fine for me. Right-clicking a Word document on box gave me the options to open with Word Online, and with Word installed locally on my computer. Today, I only get the option to use Word Online. Also, previously I could choose to open pdfs with the Xodo pdf viewer, there is no longer any option to "Open with..." Even txt-files no longer have any option to "Open with..." What goes on?

Previously there were two options, both Word Online, and Word 2010. Double-clicking a docx-file in Win Explorer opens the file in Word 2010. For Excel and Powerpoint files, it is the same; no option to open with may locally installed MS Excel/Powerpoint 2010.

Here there previously used to be an option to "Open with..." that allowed me to send the document to the Xodo PDF viewer. Again, double-clicking a pdf in Win Explorer opens the file in Xodo. And it is the same problem with txt-files, no option to Open With... but previously there was the option to open txt-files in TextPad, which is what happens when I double-click a text-file in Win Explorer.

All of the connections to my locally installed apps seem to have disappeared; png, jpg, gif etc files open locally in Irfanview, but no longer any Open With... when right-clicked in Box; docx, pptx, xlsx open locally with the respective MS Office 2010 apps, but no option for that when right-clicked in box. 2351a5e196
