Over the years, I kept up with the new Kindle releases. However, it seemed with every release that I was losing my passion for reading. The first Kindle I had, only really allowed me to read. The latest one had an array of features, and I found I was spending more time indulging in Prime video shows like Guys Grocery Games and Nine Perfect Strangers, chatting with friends on Facebook Messenger, and browsing the web. Suddenly, it was no longer an e-reader. I'd forgotten about my books. In fact, I hadn't purchased an e-book in months.

Why Does My Kindle Take So Long To Download Books

For my anniversary last year, my partner sensed I was no longer reading e-books. He heard me talking endlessly about Kobo and their integration with OverDrive one day. Low and behold, he bought me a Kobo H20 for our anniversary. I was thrilled.

As of this week, I officially allowed the battery to drain on my Kindle (it didn't take long) and I did not go searching for the charger. From now on I'll likely use both the Kobo H20 and the Libra 2.

But remember that images, audio, and video take up much more data space than text. For most e-books, images comprise the largest element. For example, a single high-resolution image size can be around 3.5 MB.

Amazon does not set a lower limit when it comes to book length. A short book can satisfy readers as effectively as a long one. In fact, many readers love Kindle Short Reads, which take as little as fifteen minutes to enjoy.

Another type of e-book becoming more popular by the day is the graphic novel. According to the Author Learning Center, these can be anywhere from forty-eight to five hundred pages long. Graphic novels usually run far longer than comic books.

I have over 1200 kindle unlimited books (since 2015) taken up space on my computer. They have all been returned, but they all still appear when I go on Amazon to order or return. Tried all I could to delete them, but cannot. Thinking I should cancel subscription, before I lose computer space.

@Tristan, good site and very informative.

what are the prospects of keeping a book @ say $0.00 for the purpose of an extensive free offering to readers.

@ success for indies, my advice is what i had experienced as a writer also. Never let your exterior packaging kill your great book , i mean just as Tristan stated, your book cover must be super; i had bad sales for my super books because i did not take it seriously until one of the amazon kindle best selling authors got me to use , they are real good and their packaging has sold more of my books in the stores, am approaching a best seller soon. Goodluck to indies

Clickbank and Amazon are very different animals. Kindle sells much more fiction than non-fiction. Novels are very hard to sell, especially long novels where people have no idea who you are. Small books spread over a greater amount of books tend to work much better. People seem to want a quick blast while they are at work for an hour/ or traveling home and then done.

These are very good tips for publishing your ebook with Amazon.

I have a problem and infact need help from anyone.

I have 2 books published on Amazon.

The first book is on Google first page for its keyword, but it does not make any sales.

The second book is also on Google second page for its keyword and making sales slowly.

Can someone tell me the short fall of the first book?

Thank you.

Hi Tristan,

Great article. Thank you. I have 12 ebooks on kindle and this my first KDP select experiment with a free book. The 5 day period has almost expired with over 300 free .com downloads and over 60 .co.uk downloads. I wait with baited breath to see if people buy when the freeby time expires. I plan to trickle my other 11 books on the free book plan and will use your smart price of $7.99!

Will keep your readers posted.

Just a few hours ago, I published the kindle version of my book, Climbing Beyond Crystal Mountain. It is on review right now, kindle says. So, I am thinking of giving it a day or two as a chance to stand on its own. If it does not being any attention by its own, I am thinking of doing the kindle select. Your advice if very valuable. Thank you for sharing with us!

The idea of writing a book is at once attractive and intimidating. Especially since many people have no idea how long it takes to write a book. They think it takes years. But once you start to quantify how long it takes, the task solidifies and becomes less daunting. Before long, it starts to look doable.

So let's break down how long it takes to write a book so you can see that it's not the impossible task it seems. We'll also go over some tips to help you write your masterpiece faster than you ever thought possible!

There are so many factors that can determine how long writing a book takes. Writing a children's book will take, on average, less time than writing a memoir. The same can be said for writing an epic fantasy novel versus a 40,000-word creative nonfiction book.

The time you have available to devote to writing your manuscript is also a determining factor in how long it will take to come out with a published book. Obviously, the more time you can spend working in daily or weekly writing sessions, the faster you'll have the book done.

Plus, many writing teachers and even famous authors recommend setting the manuscript aside for a few weeks or a month before you begin editing. This can give you some much-needed perspective before you tackle revisions. How long you decide to wait, of course, will also influence the length of time it takes to write the book.

It's easy to get down on yourself when you hear things about how a famous author wrote a literary masterpiece in a month's time. Comparing yourself to another author does little good. Instead, you can take the following steps to write faster so you can pen your own masterpiece quicker than you ever thought possible.

There's a lot that goes into successfully launching a book, and it will probably take you longer than you think. It's important to set a goal with a publishing date, but give yourself a little cushion on this one.

Other writers, those who aren't necessarily interested in becoming self-published authors, want to know how long it takes to write a book and get a book deal. Unfortunately, traditional publishing is not like self-publishing; there's no guarantee that you'll get a traditional book deal. This means you could shop around your book proposal for years and still not land a deal.

Whether you're a fiction writer or you want to write a self-help book, there's no set amount of time it should take you. The important thing is that you set goals, stick to a schedule, and hold yourself accountable. If you really want to write a book, it shouldn't matter too much how long it will take. If you've got a story to tell, tell it.

I have the 8 GB option, and I have never come anywhere close to running out of space. E-books generally have pretty tiny files. The only reason you might have any concern is if you want to have a very large number of very long audiobooks all downloaded at once. Otherwise you should have zero issues with the 8 GB option.

I was thrilled to be reading for free. The wait times on the books I had on hold varied. One was supposed to be available in a month, one in two, another in three, and two were going to take at least six months.

My last two weeks were bananas, and of course . . . two books with VERY long waiting lists were automatically checked out to me and automatically returned without me ever downloading them. Now I have to get on their waiting lists again.

At my library you can pause your digital holds. So, if you see that you are now 3rd in line and you still have two books to read you can pause your hold for whatever amount of time you choose and it does exactly that, moves one person in front of you at a time.

Lacy: It depends on the author and what their intentions are for their career. Authors who publish frequently do extremely well. They usually publish more than one book a year, so readers are looking for their books in the KU program and on Amazon on a regular basis. Authors who have long books or long backlists also do well.

No single author can generate that volume of content for them to read. Romance and Science Fiction and Fantasy do well in KU because those readers are so voracious. Neither Literary Fiction nor Memoir does as well in KU. Those readers tend to be more selective about the books they read. For example, people who read memoir generally want to read books about celebrities they already know.

Lacy: I had been writing for a long time when I dumped all my books into KU at once. In hindsight, I think I would have done better if I would have dropped in one series at a time and taken advantage of the higher visibility you get for that first 90-day period on each individual series.

The Signature has 32 gigabytes of storage and the Standard has 8 gigs. That's a big difference, but you can still read and store a lot of books with 8 gigabytes (around 5,000). If you mostly listen to audiobooks, you may want to go for the Signature, since those tend to take up more room. Still, if you want to save some cash, just clean out your backlog; you can remove a book from your device without deleting it entirely from your Amazon account. The 2021 Paperwhites all have USB-C charging, but the Signature supports wireless charging.

The enormous 10.2-inch screen is ideal for taking notes, marking up PDFs, or doodling, and there are numerous paper formats you can choose, like college-ruled or dotted. The screen size does make reading easy too, especially if you need to increase the font size, but it takes away some of its portability if you prefer to keep an e-reader in your pocket or small purse. There are 16-, 32-, and 64-gigabyte options. Since it was released, Amazon has updated it with additional brush types, a convert-to-text in export tool, and better page navigation and subfolders. Weirdly, it's not waterproof like the other pricier Kindles. We've tried other E Ink tablets for writing, but this is probably the best (and cheapest) option. 2351a5e196
