Academics

When does school start?

School will begin on Tuesday, September 8th. Staff work hours will be Monday-Friday 7 a.m. - 3 p.m. daily. Despite our late start this academic year, Winfield R-IV School District will continue to follow our previously set academic calendar following September 8th. During virtual instruction times, what can I expect for my student's day to look like?

Though it will vary by grade level and your student's individual schedule, generally students can expect to spend 3-4 hours of screen time daily (average 30 minutes per class). Student's will not be expected to 'report' to their classes at a specific time (asynchronous learning), but will need to check their classes daily while school is in session. There may be opportunity for 'live' learning opportunities - more details will be available at a later date. Every class will be utilizing Google Classroom to distribute learning materials.

What is the difference between synchronous and asynchronous learning?

Synchronous learning is when all students engage in learning at the same time. Asynchronous student learning does not take place at the same time or pace, i.e. students complete tasks on their own. The majority of the learning at WHS will be asynchronous learning.

Will my student earn grades during virtual learning?

Yes, grades will be collected both during virtual and in-person learning opportunities throughout the year. Students are expected to complete assignments, quizzes and tests even when we are not physically present at school. Student grades will be available and updated in Tyler SIS.

Teachers will set office hours throughout the day

My student has an IEP or 504, will they still receive their services?

Yes, students that have an IEP or 504 will still receive all of their services during virtual learning. Please contact your student's case manager for specific questions and concerns regarding your students IEP/504.

My student has questions or needs additional help with a class, what do we do?

Teachers will have office hours throughout the day. Students can schedule times with their teachers during this time frame for additional guidance. These hours will be shared with students once school begins. Typically, email and Google Meet will be the primary method of contact for teachers.

Are tutors available?

What will my student's advisory class look like?

Student's will have a Google Classroom for advisory like all of their other classes that will be managed by your student's advisory teacher. This will be used to post announcements, updates, advisory challenges, counseling lessons, etc. throughout the year.

My student plans to graduate with Honors, how do they complete their community service hours?

Due to COVID-19, the community service hour requirements for the Class of 2021 and the Class of 2022 have been reduced to 30 hours. Community Service hours will look different than it has in previous years. During times in which social distancing exists, students will be allowed to perform tasks and chores for family members and friends to meet this requirement. The student must send a record of these hours to their high school counselor for documentation.

My student is enrolled in Credit Recovery, what will this look like?

Credit Recovery will utilize the PLATO program just like it has in previous years. This is an online program that allows the student to complete assignments and mastery tests in order to recover any needed credits. Credit Recovery students will be given their login information at the beginning of the year, along with instructions for completion. Your student's credit recovery teacher listed on their schedule will be checking in with them to make sure that they are making progress in these classes.

My student plans to participate in the A+ program, how will they meet all of their requirements?

At this time, Missouri's A+ Program has not released updates regarding A+ eligibility for the class of 2021. More information will be sent out to students and families when it's available.

My student is currently enrolled in an A+ tutoring class, what will this look like?

Students enrolled in A+ tutoring for 1st semester have been added to a Google Classroom in which all the information and details of this class with be shared. Contact Mrs. Bauer if you have any questions or concerns regarding this class.

My student needs to take the ACT, how can they do this?

At this time, Winfield High School still plans to be a Test Center for the 2020-21 school year, including the September test date. Students taking the ACT at Winfield High School or any other testing location will need to adhere to social distancing guidelines, as well as, wear a mask. To view more information about ACT testing, please visit https://hs.winfield.k12.mo.us/410942_3 In the event that your student's test center is closed on a date for which they were already registered, ACT will notify the student and give them the option to either take the test at another available test center or re-schedule their test for a later date.

Technology Issues

If I don't have internet access at home, will I still be able to access learning materials for my student?

Yes, students will still have access to learning materials if they do not have access to the internet. Advisory teachers are contacting families in regards to internet access. Be sure to contact your student's advisory teacher if your have not already. If your accessibility to internet changes throughout the year, please contact the high school main office. First deliveries of materials will be delivered Friday, September 4th.

My student is having issues with their chrome book or charger, what do I do?

If you are having a problem with your chrome book, please contact Ms. Hanff at 636-668-8130 ext. 237

I'm not familiar with the technology the school is using, what do I do?

Pike Lincoln Tech

My student was planning to participate in PLTC, is this still an option?

Yes, even though the Winfield R-IV School District has gone virtual for 1st quarter, students enrolled in PLTC courses will still be able to attend in-person. Please note, PLTC still plans to start classes on August 25th.

My student is planning on attending PLTC, will transportation still be available?

Yes, the district will be providing transportation for PLTC students. The PLTC bus will leave the Winfield High School building at 11:10 a.m and return to the high school at 2:45 p.m. Students need to plan to be at the high school by this time. If you do not have transportation to the HS, please contact the HS main office immediately. PLTC buses will be sat one person per seat. Masks are highly recommended on the PLTC bus.

Students parking at the high school, need to park in the student parking lot in the last 2 rows of the parking lot (closest to the Athletic Field Complex). Please note, if you plan to park your vehicle in the school parking lot, you will still need to complete the WHS parking pass application. No parking pass fees will be charged until we resume in-person schooling at WHS.

How do I access Tyler SIS?

Tyler SIS 360 can be viewed at https://sdm.sisk12.com/WL360x3/login or by going to the high school website and clicking 'SIS 360' under Useful Links on the homepage.

How do I access Google Classroom?

Students will be imported to each of their class's corresponding Google Classroom by their teacher. If your student does not have access to their Google Classroom by the first day of school, please contact that specific teacher. Students can access Google Classroom by going to the Google website homepage - clicking on the dotted square (waffle) in the top right corner of the screen and choosing the Google Classroom Option.

Parents can NOT be given the classroom code and join as a student. Google Classroom is only set up for teachers and students and in order for them to join, you must be in our district network/domain. However, parents CAN be invited as a "parent or guardian". Parents invited will then get a weekly summary email about their student. They will not be able to see the student's daily work. Please contact your student's teacher if you would like to participate in this option.
