Term 4 2526 Herbert Morrison Newsletter Issue 65 Thursday 5th March 2026
Dear Parents and Carers,
World Book Day – Fun for All!
What a fantastic World Book Day we had! Parents, staff and children all joined in by dressing up as their favourite book characters, and the day was filled with fun reading activities.
Our English Ambassadors led a brilliant quiz that really impressed us all. The children showed incredible knowledge of different authors and, amazingly, they didn’t even need the prompts to answer the questions! Our “Guess the Shelfie” challenge is still on Instagram – can you work out whose bookshelf is pictured?
The children also showed that reading can happen anywhere and everywhere! We spotted children enjoying books under the swing, over the climbing frame and even inside the climbing tunnel.
Parents and Carers – thank you. We feel very supported by you. Many of you came to watch the fantastic Year 4 poetry assembly last Friday, returned again for a wonderful turnout at our World Book Day Open Morning, and we hope to see even more of you at the Year 3 assembly tomorrow.
Parents’ Evening is coming up in a couple of weeks and the letter was sent out today. Please share your views through the Parent Voice survey and book your Parents’ Evening timeslot so we can discuss your child’s learning and behaviour. We kindly ask that feedback is completed by Monday so we can give you as much notice as possible for your meeting time.
This is a very exciting term, packed with extra learning opportunities. These include Early Bird Booster sessions for Year 6, a new World Heart Beat after-school club, and the very exciting Science Night Escape Room-style “Who Dunnit?” event for Years 5 and 6. Please check the diary dates section to make sure your child does not miss out.
Kind regards,
Mrs Peake
Headteacher
World Book Day at HM – A Wonderful Success!
World Book Day at HM was a fantastic success, full of costumes, characters and book-inspired adventures. The school was buzzing with excitement as children and staff celebrated their favourite stories.
There was even a dramatic moment in assembly when Gangsta Granny was arrested by our police characters after being caught stealing the Sparkle Award from Year 1 – and nobody had suspected a thing!
A brilliant day celebrating the joy of reading and the wonderful worlds that books bring to life.
Happy World Book Day! It’s time for a little mystery … Can you guess the Shelfie? Which bookshelf belongs to which member of staff? Take a close look at the books, the clues, and the little details on each shelf …
A fantastic trip to start off the new term! Year 2 had a fab climb up the 311 steps of the Monument.
🌟 Year 1 D.T. Project – Up, Up and Away! 🪁
Year 1 have been working super hard this term on their D.T. project!
We started by exploring the history of kites and learning about all the different parts that help them fly. The children carefully planned their designs, created prototypes, and then worked brilliantly to produce their final kites.
Lucky for us, it was a perfectly windy day — ideal for testing them out! 🌬️🪁 The excitement on the field was amazing to see as the kites soared high into the sky.
Now the big question… did Miss Evans and Mr Dav enjoy making the kites more than the children? 🤔😄
Year 4, you owned that stage. Fantastic class assembly.
With rhythm in your voices and fire in your feet,
you proved that poetry isn’t just words —
it’s heartbeat, breath, and brave repetition.
“Gran, Can You Rap?” wasn’t just performed…
it pulsed, It popped, lines leapt.
Year 4, you didn’t just recite —
you inspired. 🎤✨
Nursery class went on a journey around the school grounds looking for signs of Spring. They found daffodils growing and saw frogs and frogspawn in the pond! How exciting! @hmprimaryschool
These children have been recognised for their incredible effort and excellence! They will receive a golden certificate, a big round of applause during the celebration assembly, and a coveted spot in the prestigious Gold Book. Well done to all our shining stars!

The question of the week is -
What can we do if we feel worried but want to try something new?
We discuss the values and question of the week in assembly. Discuss these with your child at home.
The value of the week is: HONESTY
The NSPCC’s guidance on children, mobile phones and online safety is a useful resource for DSLs to draw on when communicating with parents. It addresses one of the most common questions schools are asked: when is a child ready for a phone, and how can families manage the risks?
The guide offers balanced, practical advice on readiness, boundary-setting, parental controls, and ongoing conversations about safe and responsible use. Including or signposting this resource in a parent newsletter can help reinforce consistent messages between home and school, reduce anxiety, and support a shared approach to online safety.
