Term 2 2526 Herbert Morrison Newsletter Issue 60 Thursday 4th December 2025
Dear Parents and Carers,
As we move into a festive fortnight filled with sparkle and song, our value of the week is Hope — hope for joyful moments, hope for calm among the busyness, and hope in all the wonderful things our children continue to learn and become.
We also said a truly worthy farewell to our very own Coach Tom, who is heading off to the other side of the world on his travels. We hope he makes it back in time for his favourite day in the school calendar… Sports Day!
We wish him well and thank him for his humour, his excellent teaching of sporting skills, and — most of all — the positive attitude and mindset he has inspired in our children about winning, not winning, and simply doing their best.
We couldn’t have been prouder of our youngest learners, singing loud and proud and filling the hall with festive cheer. Thank you to all the parents and carers who came along to make it special — a truly wonderful way to start the day!
Tomorrow we look forward to the KS1 Nativity, and KS2 will follow next Friday.
Please note: KS2 seats are limited, so tickets are sold on a first-come, first-served basis — and you definitely don’t want to miss out!
If you can make it down to Riverside tomorrow evening (5.30–6.15pm), our Choir will be singing into the stars as they headline the Christmas Lights Switch-On! Everyone is warmly welcome.
Follow the beautiful singing — and if you need a reminder, the event letter is available under Latest Letters on the school website.
As festive events continue, please do check the dates carefully so you don’t miss any of the celebrations, performances or singalongs. There is lots to look forward to and many moments of hope and joy ahead for our pupils and families.
💃 FREE Parent Zumba – Wellbeing for You Too!
We focus a lot on pupil and staff wellbeing — now it’s time to think about parent wellbeing too! We are offering a FREE Parent Zumba class. Spaces are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.

A Reminder About Appointments
We kindly ask that, wherever possible, parents arrange medical or personal appointments for their children outside of school hours. There are only 190 school days in the year, but a generous 175 non-school days available for holidays, family time, and events. By keeping appointments to these non-school days, we can work together to make sure every child enjoys the very best attendance and learning opportunities. Thank you for your support!
📢 Illness Reminder 📢
If your child is unwell at school, we will call you to collect them. Please ensure we have your up-to-date contact details.
Please remember to inform the school of your child's absence each day; even if the school knows they are home due to vomiting - this is to update school if new symptoms develop. The best way to do this is via Studybugs.
Currently, 67% of parents are using Studybugs—if you’re among the 33% who haven’t signed up yet, please do so as soon as possible!
Please download the STUDY BUGS app and support us in raising our attendance %.
Overall we are at 95.6% for this academic year. With your help we aim to maintain this to the end of the term. Please download the STUDY BUGS app and support us in raising our attendance %.
Please help your child achieve by ensuring they are in school when they are well enough to be here.
Medical Appointment Documentation
Please ensure all appointments are made outside of school hours.
To help us accurately record absences, please email a copy of any medical appointment texts or appointment cards to the school office for confirmation when your child(ren) is absent for health-related reasons. This ensures their attendance records are kept up-to-date.
When making appointments please ask your doctors for a medical slip or appointment text to give to school.
Thank you for your cooperation and support.

The question of the week is -
What is something you hope for that would make the world a little better?
We discuss the values and question of the week in assembly. Discuss these with your child at home.
The value of the week is: HOPE
Many young people and children today are deeply attached to their digital devices – often using screens for comfort, connection, and even validation. This attachment can quickly turn into dependency, especially with many apps designed to be habit-forming. Our guide breaks down how and why these connections develop, and the ways in which they might affect children’s behaviour, focus, and emotional resilience.
From disrupted sleep patterns to distorted self-image, the consequences of excessive screen time can be far-reaching. This guide also examines how digital communication may shape friendships and social skills, as well as the hidden risks children and young people face in virtual spaces. With expert insights and practical strategies, it’s a valuable read for anyone supporting children and young people in our digital world.
SPECIAL DIETRY REQUIREMENTS
If your child has an allergy please scan this code and ensure that you complete the new caters online information. We have passed over the information we have and it is all going digital now. Please feel free to speak to a member of staff if you need any support with this.
All allergy referals must be accompanied by medical evidence.
Thank you.
The lunch menus are on a 3 week rota -Yum!
Please note that on the rare occasion there may be a slight change on offer - this is usually due to delivery delays.
TERM 3 CLUBS WILL BE ANNOUNCED SOON
LEARNING AT HOME
📚✨ Homework Heroes!
There are lots of great online homework support sites your class teacher will share with you. The most important homework of all is daily reading and times tables practice – little and often makes a big difference! 💡
We’d love to hear how your child (and you!) are getting on – let us know and celebrate those learning wins together! 🎉
More information and a weekly update of these low cost suggestions can be found on the Oval Learning Cluster Website - Families Page. Our School works in Partnership with the Oval Learning Cluster.
