Term 3 2425 Herbert Morrison Newsletter Issue 43 Thursday 30th January 2025
Dear Parents and Carers,
🔢 Talk Maths – Keep Talking!
This term has been packed with numbers, patterns, and problem-solving—and we’ve loved every moment! A huge thank you to everyone who joined our Talk Maths Open Morning. We hope you enjoyed reasoning, estimating, and explaining just as much as the children did. Keep those maths conversations going at home—talk about shapes at dinner, time while cooking, or even fractions when sharing a pizza!
Children have raised concerns about Hartington Road at drop-off and pick-up times. Thanks to their letters, we’re being assessed for the School Streets project! In the meantime, please:
✅ Walk, cycle, or scoot whenever possible
✅ Avoid idling if you must drive (turn off your engine while waiting)
✅ Park safely—never on zigzags or corners
✅ Encourage children to use crossings
We are lucky to welcome fantastic visitors on a regular basis, including:
🥋 An Olympic Taekwondo coach inspiring our young athletes
📚 Authors sharing their stories and creativity
💻 Live online lessons for Internet Safety Day
🥦 Food Zone advisors & surveys – staff and children are completing theirs in school, and we would love parents’ views too! Please scan the QR code to take part.
🎶 Music specialists bringing rhythm and melody to our learning
⚽ Sports coaches helping develop skills, teamwork, and confidence
Afterschool club is thriving, but breakfast club numbers remain low. If you’d like this morning service to continue next term, please use it!
🔔 JAGs Contact: Use the dedicated bell at the main entrance or call 0757 03 776 89.
Keep talking maths, staying safe, and supporting each other! 🎉

Attendance for Term 3 ... so far
Click here for some more information. Thank you for using Study Bugs - this is helping us identify trends in absence. There seems to be a few children who have been reported with high temperature. Click here to find out what the NHS advise about 'Is my child too ill to go to school?'
We aim for 95% attendance - we are above this for most classes for Term 3 so far. Well done Year 3, Year 4 and Year 6! Overall we are 94.6% for this term and just below at 94.8% for the academic year to date! With a positive term we could happily tipple over into 95%! Please download the STUDY BUGS app and support us in raising our attendance %.
Please help your child achieve by ensuring they are in school when they are well enough to be here.
Medical Appointment Documentation
Please ensure all appointments are made outside of school hours.
To help us accurately record absences, please email a copy of any medical appointment texts or appointment cards to the school office for confirmation when your child(ren) is absent for health-related reasons. This ensures their attendance records are kept up-to-date.
When making appointments please ask your doctors for a medical slip or appointment text to give to school.
Thank you for your cooperation and support.

We discuss the values and question of the week in assembly. Discuss these with your child at home.
How can you support someone who is struggling but not asking for help?
In our school, we call them World Values. Do you know the 5 values? 🧐 They are Democracy, Rule of Law, Individual Liberty, Mutual Respect, and Tolerance of Different Faiths and Beliefs. 🌍🇬🇧 #ValuesMatter
Promoting Peace Through RRSA
Teaching COURAGE through the Rights Respecting Schools Award (RRSA) involves fostering an understanding of key rights and encouraging children to develop the values, attitudes, and skills needed to live peacefully with others. Here’s how we teach peace through RRSA principles:
Article 12 – Respect for the views of the child
Children have the right to express their views and have them taken seriously, which requires courage, especially in difficult circumstances.
Article 13 – Freedom of expression
Children have the right to seek, receive, and share information, which often requires bravery to speak up.
Article 19 – Protection from violence, abuse, and neglect
Courage is needed to seek help and stand against abuse and mistreatment.
Article 22 – Refugee children
Many children fleeing conflict show immense bravery in their journey for safety.
Article 32 – Protection from harmful work
Children working in dangerous conditions need support to stand up for their rights and seek a better future.

As we grow up, we’re inevitably exposed to new and challenging feelings – whether it’s sadness, fear or rage. These emotions can be tough to handle when we’re still learning about the world – and even once we’ve passed into adulthood – which is why emotional literacy is a vital life skill.
Of course, when emotions are running high, it can be tricky to help young people process these feelings in a healthy way, but it’s incredibly important that we do so as parents and educators. This free guide provides you with expert tips on teaching children to recognise their own emotions and deal with them in a mature manner.
The lunch menus are on a 3 week rota - please find the Monday date at the top to know what will be on offer for the week. There are 3 menus to see below. Yum!
Please note that on the rare occasion there may be a slight change on offer - this is usually due to delivery delays.
