This website has been created by David V. Loertscher and Fran Kompar for schools and school districts that are re-examining schooling for the second decade of the 21st century. While both of us come from a background of the school library, we have been engaged in the last decade in reinventing the traditional school library into a learning commons. We have created a new vision far beyond what a library has been in the past and have started over with a wholistic view of school as we know it.
We assume that the reader is already familiar with a number of reformers in education such as Sir Ken Robinson, Will Richardson, Darlene ...Hammons, ...Heidi Hayes Jacobs, . In the area of technology, we recommend a recent analysis of technology in education during the first decade of the 2000s. This can be found at: https://www.edsurge.com/ done by the Edsurge folks.
After pursing through this site, we anticipate that you will create some sort of conversation, planning team, or professional development using the ideas and resources here. There are many places on this site that allow the reader to comment and we hope that you will do so. And, we are certainly available for questions and consultations: David Loertscher at reader.dave@gmail.com and Fran Kompar at komparf@wiltonps.org
We would love to showcase progress toward the school-wide learning commons concept. Just email us and perhaps we can showcase your work here
