Term 5 2526 Herbert Morrison Newsletter Issue 68 Thursday 30th April 2026
Dear Parents and Carers,
As we continue through this busy and exciting term, our school value of responsibility remains at the heart of everything we do. We encourage our children to take responsibility for their learning, their behaviour and their community—and we are equally grateful for the way you, as parents and carers, take responsibility in supporting the life of our school. Working together makes a real difference.
We currently have spaces in our Nursery, which provides a vibrant and nurturing start to education. Our provision is regularly showcased to other schools—it really is something we are very proud of! If you know families with children turning three, please do recommend us. We are able to welcome children as soon as they turn three and support them in taking those important first steps in their learning journey.
We also have a small number of spaces across other year groups. Your recommendations and advocacy for our school are incredibly valuable—thank you in advance for helping our community continue to grow.
Parent voice is a key part of our ongoing development. At Herbert Morrison, we believe that listening to our families helps us to improve and provide the very best for our children. Our catering provider would really appreciate your feedback, and I strongly encourage you to complete the GROW Parent Survey by scanning the QR code on the poster. Your views matter and will help shape the service moving forward.
Thank you also to everyone who contributed to our recent term dates consultation. We were pleased to receive responses from almost all classes, with 81% of families indicating a preference for a two-week October half term. This demonstrates how powerful your collective voice can be. This was our internal survey, and you are now invited to take part in the official consultation led by Lambeth Council. Please do take a moment to complete their survey, as this will directly influence decisions about term dates from 2027 onwards. https://haveyoursay.lambeth.gov.uk/en-GB/projects/consultation-on-community-schools-term-dates/surveys/new?phase_id=4031b3be-b8c5-43c8-b9eb-4a5a3302ff05
For our Year 6 families, we are excited to offer a SATs Week Breakfast Club—providing a positive start to the day with fun quizzes, motivational chats and a good breakfast. If your child would like to attend, please complete the short form here:
https://forms.gle/BLn2JPu7iUhcfCxp8
This will help us plan and ensure we have plenty of food for everyone.
Finally, we are still awaiting photo consent responses from around 20 families. Please contact Miss Nathalie in the office if you have not yet responded to this - you are invited to visit the office to confirm your preferences—whether you give consent or not. This is another important way we ensure we are acting responsibly and in line with your wishes.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support, your engagement and your voice. Together, we can continue to build a strong and thriving school community.
Kind regards,
Mrs Peake
Headteacher
As the weather warms up the jumpers come off - please make sure EVERY items has a name in it. Thank you in advance.
Year 5 Drama
ear 5 brought Macbeth to life in an amazing English lesson through drama! 🎭🌟
From powerful performances as the three witches to dramatic retellings of key scenes, the classroom was full of energy, creativity and expression. The children explored characters, emotions and key moments from the play in a way that made their learning truly memorable.
What a fantastic way to deepen understanding and build confidence—future actors in the making! 👏✨
Year 2 Library Trip
Our Year 2 children had a fantastic visit to the library this week! 📚✨
They loved exploring the shelves, discovering new stories, and learning how to choose books they’re excited to read. The excitement was clear as they shared their favourite finds and settled down for some quiet reading time.
Visits like this help build a lifelong love of reading and show just how special books can be. 💫
Year N Science
Nursery have started their minibeast topic and have explored inside and outside looking for minibeast, they have investigated, noticed, made observations and discovered that some minibeast are helpful and some can be pests. However they know that they are very important and have to be looked after. They have brainstormed lots of questions they want to discover this term. What fun!
KS2 Robotics Club
Meet mini Rice the robot. He has come to visit us all the way from Asia where he is used to deliver food. The first robotics club has got us thinking about programming… and it’s making us hungry! 😋 #computingpower #afterschoolclubs

The question of the week is -
How do our choices affect other people? Give examples.
We discuss the values and question of the week in assembly. Discuss these with your child at home.
The value of the week is: RESPONSBILITY
YouTube continues to be a go-to platform for entertainment, learning and creativity, but its vast and largely unregulated content library presents ongoing challenges. This guide outlines how features like recommendations, Shorts and social interaction can shape young people’s viewing habits, sometimes exposing them to inappropriate or extreme material.
It also explores key safeguarding concerns, including stranger interaction, risky trends and the limits of automated moderation. With practical advice on tools such as YouTube Kids, supervised accounts and parental controls, the guide supports parents and educators in encouraging safer, more balanced and informed use of the platform.
