Term 5 2526 Herbert Morrison Newsletter Issue 67 Thursday 16th April 2026
Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome to the Summer Term
Welcome to the Summer Term – a busy and exciting time filled with final assessments and plenty of opportunities to celebrate all the fantastic learning that has taken place this year. We are also looking ahead with enthusiasm: preparing our current pupils for their next steps as they move up through the school, and getting ready to welcome new children and families joining us in September.
Value of the Week: Humility
Our value this week is Humility. We will be encouraging children to approach their learning with quiet confidence, to recognise their own progress, and to appreciate the contributions of others. It’s a wonderful value to discuss at home too, especially as children reflect on their achievements this year.
After School Clubs
A reminder that a small number of places are still available for our After School Clubs, which begin next week. Please refer to the attached letter for details on how to book. If you experience any difficulties, the school office will be happy to help.
Term Dates Consultation
We would really value your views on future term dates. Lambeth will soon be consulting on the possibility of a two-week October half term, and we are gathering early feedback from our community. This would apply to the 2027–2028 academic year (not next year). Please take a moment to complete this short survey:

Community Consultation Opportunity
You may also be aware of the opportunity to share your thoughts on how a former local school site could be repurposed. This is a chance to influence how the space might best serve the community, including potential educational or community use. Please do add your voice here:

Supporting Your Child at Home
As we approach assessment period, your support at home makes a real difference. Encouraging children to complete their homework independently, reading daily, discussing new vocabulary, and regularly practising times tables and problem-solving will all help build confidence. You’ll find additional tips in the Parent Maths section of this newsletter.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support.
Kind regards,
Mrs Peake
Headteacher
As the weather warms up the jumpers come off - please make sure EVERY items has a name in it. Thank you in advance.
Year 1 DT
This week in Year 1, we have been learning how to write instructions. 📝
After practicing our skills, Miss Evans put our jam sandwich instructions to the test…let’s just say we learnt the importance of being clear. 😅
We discovered how important sentence structure and imperative verbs are, especially when some of our first sandwiches were definitely inedible! 🥪
We didn’t give up though, and by the end we successfully made some delicious jam sandwiches. 👏🍓
Nursery Geography
Pirates, Treasure & Maps, shiver me timbers!
Nursery's pirate adventure has come to an end, after a thrilling treasure hunt around the nursery. This exciting journey wrapped up our topic on journeys. Working together, the children discovered the treasure and then used positional language and descriptive sentences to reveal its hiding spot, or else the Pirate Captain would snatch it away! Nursery Pirates worked as a fantastic team! Well done everyone!
Year 3 DT
Year 3 have enjoyed making moving dragons in DT. They leant all about how to make a moving mechanism using levers and linkages
Year 5 + 6
Year 5 & 6 took part in a powerful Masculinity Workshop today Pupils explored perceptions of gender and discussed the pressures of stereotyping in a safe and supportive space. It was fantastic to see such thoughtful conversations, respectful listening, and confidence in sharing ideas. We are proud of how our pupils are developing empathy, understanding, and the courage to challenge stereotypes 🌟 #Respect #Equality #PupilVoice

KS2 Choir - Music
Our choir had the incredible opportunity to perform at the iconic Royal Festival Hall alongside over 800 other singers. It was an unforgettable experience, performing on such a prestigious stage to a large and appreciative audience. The pupils represented the school brilliantly, showing confidence, teamwork and real musical talent. A truly amazing event and one we will remember for a long time.
International Womens Day Dodgeball Event
On Thursday, we celebrated International Women’s Day with our very own in-house dodgeball tournament at Herbert Morrison.
It was such a fun event with so many girls getting involved — great energy, teamwork and determination on display!
Well done to everyone who took part.
A big thank you to Coach Max for organising such a fantastic event.
Year 1 Science
Who had the BEST time on their school trip?… Year 1 did! 🚌✨
We travelled all the way by bus to the Horniman Museum, where we explored amazing animals from around the world. Using our brilliant scientific knowledge, we sorted them into categories like mammals, birds and fish 🐦🐟🐾 — and even worked out whether they were herbivores, omnivores or carnivores!
After all that learning, we enjoyed our lunch together in the sunshine ☀️ before heading to the petting zoo to see some real-life animals up close 🐐🐓
Overall… a 10/10 school trip! 🎉 A big THANK YOU to all the adults who helped make it such a special day 💙
These children have been recognised for their incredible effort and excellence! They will receive a golden certificate, a big round of applause during the celebration assembly, and a coveted spot in the prestigious Gold Book. Well done to all our shining stars!
We are so proud of you!

If your child is unwell at school, we will call you to collect them. Please ensure we have your up-to-date contact details.
Please remember to inform the school of your child's absence each day; even if the school knows they are home due to vomiting - this is to update school if new symptoms develop. The best way to do this is via Studybugs.
Currently, 69% of parents are using Studybugs—if you’re among the 31% who haven’t signed up yet, please do so as soon as possible!

Please help your child achieve by ensuring they are in school when they are well enough to be here.
Medical Appointment Documentation
Please ensure all appointments are made outside of school hours.
To help us accurately record absences, please email a copy of any medical appointment texts or appointment cards to the school office for confirmation when your child(ren) is absent for health-related reasons. This ensures their attendance records are kept up-to-date.
When making appointments please ask your doctors for a medical slip or appointment text to give to school.

With millions of apps available and children accessing them from an increasingly young age, app stores can present a range of risks. From malware and copycat apps to inappropriate content and persuasive in-app purchases, this guide highlights how easily young users can encounter issues – even when using official platforms.
It also offers clear, practical advice to help parents and educators manage these risks. From setting up parental controls and checking app credibility to having open conversations about safe usage, the guide supports adults in building children’s awareness, encouraging safer choices and promoting more balanced, responsible app use.
