Term 3 2526 Herbert Morrison Newsletter Issue 62 Thursday 15th January 2026
Dear Parents and Carers,
We have a busy and exciting year ahead and have already hit the ground running with learning, ambitious challenges, and positive resolutions. We are looking forward to working together to support all our children as they grow, achieve, and succeed this year.
Online safety is also a key theme this term. We would love to welcome you to our Online Safety Open Morning next Tuesday from 9:00–10:00am, where you’ll be able to see how this is taught and how we support pupils to be safe, respectful and responsible online.
We are now at the midway point of the academic year — half way there and ready to build on and double the learning that has already taken place. Term 3 is a key part of the school year, and we are grateful for your continued support. By working together, we can ensure that all children are both supported and appropriately challenged as we move forward.
🥶 Brrr… winter has definitely arrived!
With the playground feeling more like the Arctic than Lambeth at the moment, please make sure your child comes to school every day with a warm coat clearly labelled with their name. We would also like to remind everyone that bikes and scooters must be walked, not ridden, in the playground to help keep everyone safe and prevent accidents — and yes, this includes adults too! 👀 We want everyone warm, well and injury-free.
We have started this term with a whole-school focus on honesty, which links closely to our campaigning work and our wider theme for this year. Through assemblies and classroom discussions, pupils are exploring what honesty looks like in everyday life, how it builds trust, and why it is such an important value in our school community.
We have already had some fantastically creative responses to our Value of the Week question, and a selection of these are included in this newsletter. We also shared a range of real-life scenarios with the children to encourage discussion and reflection.
To support these conversations at home, we’ve put together some additional information and scenarios for you to explore together:

We strongly encourage you to ask your child about what honesty means to them and continue these important discussions at home.
This term began with our RRSA OutRight Campaign Week, where children learned about the importance of rights, respect and fairness, with a particular focus on speaking up, standing up for others, and ensuring everyone’s voice is heard. Pupils took part in assemblies, discussions and activities that helped them understand how they can make a positive difference both in school and beyond.
Please do take time to speak with your child about this important work and what they learned during the week.
We are slowly moving over to Instagram as a new way to share school life and celebrations. Nathalie is currently completing final checks around photo permissions for families who did not respond to the online form.
If you haven’t yet shared your preference, please contact the school office as soon as possible.
Attendance this term has dropped below 94%, and we are keen to work together to improve this. After a school break, it is particularly important that children return on the correct start date, as missed days can quickly impact learning, routines, confidence and friendships.
Classroom doors open at 8:50am, and learning begins straight away. Please ensure your child arrives on time so they don’t miss key teaching, morning activities or vital instructions.
Nursery and Reception begin at 9:00am, allowing families time to drop off older siblings and still arrive calmly for our youngest learners.
Every day — and every minute — in school really does count.
Thank you, as always, for your ongoing partnership and support.
Kind regards,
Mrs Peake
Headteacher

A Reminder About Appointments and Holidays
We kindly ask that, wherever possible, parents arrange medical or personal appointments for their children outside of school hours. There are only 190 school days in the year, but a generous 175 non-school days available for holidays, family time, and events. By keeping appointments to these non-school days, we can work together to make sure every child enjoys the very best attendance and learning opportunities. Thank you for your support!
📢 Illness Reminder 📢
If your child is unwell at school, we will call you to collect them. Please ensure we have your up-to-date contact details.
Please remember to inform the school of your child's absence each day; even if the school knows they are home due to vomiting - this is to update school if new symptoms develop. The best way to do this is via Studybugs.
Currently, 67% of parents are using Studybugs—if you’re among the 33% who haven’t signed up yet, please do so as soon as possible!
Please download the STUDY BUGS app and support us in raising our attendance %.
Overall we are at 95.1% for this academic year. With your help we aim to maintain this to the end of the term. Please download the STUDY BUGS app and support us in raising our attendance %.
Please help your child achieve by ensuring they are in school when they are well enough to be here.
Medical Appointment Documentation
Please ensure all appointments are made outside of school hours.
To help us accurately record absences, please email a copy of any medical appointment texts or appointment cards to the school office for confirmation when your child(ren) is absent for health-related reasons. This ensures their attendance records are kept up-to-date.
When making appointments please ask your doctors for a medical slip or appointment text to give to school.
Thank you for your cooperation and support.

We discuss the values and question of the week in assembly. Discuss these with your child at home.
The value of the week is: HONESTY
Digital devices are woven into everyday life for children and young people, but balancing the benefits with potential risks can feel challenging.
