Term 5 2425 Herbert Morrison Newsletter Issue 50 Thursday 22nd May 2025
Dear Parents and Carers,
Headteacher's Newsletter – End of Term 5
As we wrap up Term 5, I want to take a moment to reflect on the incredible attitude shown by our children—particularly Platypus Class, who have truly shone. Their positive mindset and resilience have been outstanding. All the values we’ve focused on this term—kindness, responsibility, respect, courage and, of course, hope—were clearly demonstrated in their approach to learning.
Last week, Platypus Class tackled their SATs with such enthusiasm that several children even asked to take the reading paper home because they enjoyed it so much! Let’s HOPE their results reflect their dedication and passion. However, it’s important to remember that SATs only capture a small part of what makes our children so special. They do not measure their humour, creativity, compassion or character—all of which they have in abundance.
Thank you to all families who joined us for the Wellbeing Open Morning. It was a joy to see so many of you exploring the five ways to wellbeing alongside your children. We hope you've taken away a few new strategies to support your own mental health too!
Looking ahead to Term 6, we have a calendar full of events and adventures: school journey, the summer fair, class trips, Sports Day, and of course, our Graduation Ceremony for Year 6. There will be plenty of smiles as we celebrate our children's achievements and milestones.
Please see the Dates for your Diary section so you don’t miss out, and we kindly suggest that parents start warming up for the Sports Day race now—trainers at the ready!
Talking of trainers ....
Please ensure that trainers are only worn with a PE kit and not with the full uniform. Please support our uniform policy. As the weather is warming up ( on some days ) children remove their jumpers, it is essential that all clothing is labelled with their name. We have an increasing amount of lost property - please have a look through for any lost items. As previoiusly shared this is periodically thrown away as we do not have the storage space to keep it. We will be disposing of the lost property on Friday 6th June.
🎉 And finally… this marks our 50th newsletter in this format! Happy milestone, newsletter! Thank you for reading, engaging and staying connected—here’s to many more!
Wishing you a restful half term, full of sunshine and shared moments.
Kind regards,
Mrs Peake - Headteacher

📢 Illness Reminder 📢
If your child is unwell at school, we will call you to collect them. Please ensure we have your up-to-date contact details.
⚠ If your child has vomited, we follow UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) guidance ("Health protection in schools and other childcare facilities," updated October 2023) and NHS guidance:
✔ They should go home and stay off school for at least 48 hours after the last episode of vomiting or diarrhea.
Please remember to inform the school of your child's absence each day; even if the school knows they are home due to vomiting - this is to update school if new symptoms develop. The best way to do this is via Studybugs.
Currently, 62% of parents are using Studybugs—if you’re among the 38% who haven’t signed up yet, please do so as soon as possible!
We aim for 95% attendance - well done to Reception Class, Year 1, Year 3, Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6 for achieving this so far this term. Overall (so far this year) we are nearly 95% . We are so very very close the 95% target and with your help we could still achieve this by the end of the year. Please download the STUDY BUGS app and support us in raising our attendance %.
Please help your child achieve by ensuring they are in school when they are well enough to be here.
Medical Appointment Documentation
Please ensure all appointments are made outside of school hours.
To help us accurately record absences, please email a copy of any medical appointment texts or appointment cards to the school office for confirmation when your child(ren) is absent for health-related reasons. This ensures their attendance records are kept up-to-date.
When making appointments please ask your doctors for a medical slip or appointment text to give to school.
Thank you for your cooperation and support.

Changes to How Parents Book
From Tuesday 6th May 2025 at 7am, families will be able to book wraparound care for the entire 2025/26 academic year using our new recurring booking model:
Bookings follow a regular weekly pattern (e.g., every Monday), secured for the full school year.
This system is similar to the existing instalment plan model that many families are familiar with.
We are making this change to:
Support demand management where waiting lists are common
Ensure fair access for families looking to secure consistent care
Enable earlier, more accurate staffing and programming plans
Rise then Shine
We are expecting the Rise then Shine Breakfast Club from 7.30am to start again in September when we have a new class of children to join and hopefully top up the numbers.
The FREE school Breakfast Club is still available for all pupils ( Reception Class to Year 6) from 8.30am.
After School Clubs
JAG’s After School Clubs, called Stay And Play, offer fun, happy and safe places for children to play freely across age groups and take part in structured activities such as arts and crafts and active play. Providing an energising end to the school day, children can join group activities, enjoy a healthy snack, or chill out with toys and games that are all set up and ready for them to enjoy.

We discuss the values and question of the week in assembly. Discuss these with your child at home.
Do you have to be human to cry?
Can you think of a time when someone else’s hope inspired you?
What small actions can you take each day to help build hope for yourself and others?
(To the tune of "You Are My Sunshine")
Verse 1:
Hope is a rainbow after the rain,
A little light when we feel pain.
It’s in our hearts, it helps us try,
To reach our dreams and aim so high.
Chorus:
🌟 Hope is strong, it helps us grow,
Even when the winds may blow.
With kind hands and hopeful eyes,
We can soar and touch the skies!
Verse 2:
When things are tough and skies are grey,
Hope will help us find our way.
A smile, a friend, a helping hand,
Together strong, we’ll always stand.
🌈✨ At Herbert Morrison Primary School, we believe that hope is a powerful force that helps children and families look to the future with confidence and optimism. When we nurture hope, we support every child’s belief in their potential and the possibility of a brighter tomorrow.
🔹 🌍🌟 Aiming High with Optimism (Article 29) – Every child has the right to develop their personality, talents and abilities to the fullest. We encourage children to stay hopeful about their learning journey. Whether preparing for a club or a challenge, believing in what’s possible keeps spirits high and minds open.
🔹 🌍🌟 Positive Partnerships (Article 12) – Hope grows stronger when families and schools work together. Our communications about opportunities, like after-school clubs, help families and children plan ahead. When we stay connected, children feel uplifted and secure.
🔹 🌍🌟 Nurturing Belief in Ourselves and Others (Article 3) – Arriving on time and ready to learn or participate helps children feel prepared and valued. These small acts build trust, self-esteem, and a sense of calm – key ingredients for hopeful thinking.
At Herbert Morrison, hope means believing that challenges can be overcome, that progress is possible, and that each child has the strength and support to reach their goals. Thank you for fostering this hopeful mindset with us, every step of the way.
With around 70% of teens reporting they've seen violent real-life content on social media in the past year, this guide shines a light on a disturbing – and increasingly common – aspect of young people’s digital lives. From shocking videos to hate speech, many children don’t go looking for this material, it finds them via algorithms or peer sharing.
The guide outlines key concerns, including the mental toll of repeated exposure, shifts in behaviour, and the worrying normalisation of harmful ideologies. It also explains how such content can escalate from screen to street, and why some young people may feel pressured to share or even create violent media themselves.
The lunch menus are on a 3 week rota - please find the Monday date at the top to know what will be on offer for the week. There are 3 menus to see below. Yum!
Please note that on the rare occasion there may be a slight change on offer - this is usually due to delivery delays.
More information and a weekly update of these low cost suggestions can be found on the Oval Learning Cluster Website - Families Page. Our School works in Partnership with the Oval Learning Cluster.
