Term 5 2425 Herbert Morrison Newsletter Issue 49 Thursday 8th May 2025
Dear Parents and Carers,
As we move into the summer term, our whole-school focus is firmly on wellbeing and positive learning behaviours. We know that when children feel calm, confident, and cared for, they are better equipped to showcase everything they’ve learnt – especially during assessment time.
A big highlight this week was our Healthy Eating Workshop – a full house event that received fantastically positive feedback! Thank you to all the parents who attended, and a special thank you to Yumna from Food Zone, whose expert advice truly gave us food for thought. Your engagement and enthusiasm made this a recipe for success! 🥦🍇
Next week, we send our very best wishes to Year 6, who will be sitting their SATS assessments. They’ve worked so hard, and we are incredibly proud of them. To help start each day positively, they are invited to a special breakfast club each morning – full of good food, light-hearted quiz fun, and calm conversations with friends. We hope this makes the experience as enjoyable and relaxed as possible.
📅 Please also see the invitation to our Wellbeing Open Morning on Wednesday 21st May – we hope you can all make it! The session will include an informative talk from your child’s class teacher, followed by time spent in class working alongside your child. It’s set to be a very enjoyable and insightful morning, and we’d love to see as many of you there as possible.
As always, thank you for your continued support and positivity – it really makes all the difference.
Kind regards,
Mrs Peake - Headteacher

📢 Illness Reminder 📢
If your child is unwell at school, we will call you to collect them. Please ensure we have your up-to-date contact details.
⚠ If your child has vomited, we follow UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) guidance ("Health protection in schools and other childcare facilities," updated October 2023) and NHS guidance:
✔ They should go home and stay off school for at least 48 hours after the last episode of vomiting or diarrhea.
Please remember to inform the school of your child's absence each day; even if the school knows they are home due to vomiting - this is to update school if new symptoms develop. The best way to do this is via Studybugs.
Currently, 62% of parents are using Studybugs—if you’re among the 38% who haven’t signed up yet, please do so as soon as possible!
We aim for 95% attendance - well done to Reception Class, Year 1, Year 3, Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6 for achieving this so far this term. Overall we are nearly 95% for this academic year. We are so very very close the 95% target and with your help we could still achieve this by the end of the year. Please download the STUDY BUGS app and support us in raising our attendance %.
Please help your child achieve by ensuring they are in school when they are well enough to be here.
Medical Appointment Documentation
Please ensure all appointments are made outside of school hours.
To help us accurately record absences, please email a copy of any medical appointment texts or appointment cards to the school office for confirmation when your child(ren) is absent for health-related reasons. This ensures their attendance records are kept up-to-date.
When making appointments please ask your doctors for a medical slip or appointment text to give to school.
Thank you for your cooperation and support.

Changes to How Parents Book
From Tuesday 6th May 2025 at 7am, families will be able to book wraparound care for the entire 2025/26 academic year using our new recurring booking model:
Bookings follow a regular weekly pattern (e.g., every Monday), secured for the full school year.
This system is similar to the existing instalment plan model that many families are familiar with.
We are making this change to:
Support demand management where waiting lists are common
Ensure fair access for families looking to secure consistent care
Enable earlier, more accurate staffing and programming plans
Rise then Shine
We are expecting the Rise then Shine Breakfast Club from 7.30am to start again in September when we have a new class of children to join and hopefully top up the numbers.
The FREE school Breakfast Club is still available for all pupils ( Reception Class to Year 6) from 8.30am.
After School Clubs
JAG’s After School Clubs, called Stay And Play, offer fun, happy and safe places for children to play freely across age groups and take part in structured activities such as arts and crafts and active play. Providing an energising end to the school day, children can join group activities, enjoy a healthy snack, or chill out with toys and games that are all set up and ready for them to enjoy.

We discuss the values and question of the week in assembly. Discuss these with your child at home.
VE Day Reflections 🇬🇧
This week, children took time to learn about VE Day – Victory in Europe Day – and reflect on its significance in marking the end of World War II in Europe. Through engaging activities and thoughtful discussion, pupils explored the themes of peace, resilience, and remembrance. A wonderful opportunity to connect history with values that still matter today.
Why do you think it’s important to be responsible, even when no one is watching?
How can being responsible help other people around you?
What are some small choices you make every day that show you’re being responsible?
Teaching RESPONSIBILITY Through RRSA (Rights Respecting Schools Award)
🌍✨At Herbert Morrison Primary School, we believe that responsibility is nurtured when children and families work in partnership with the school, respecting shared expectations and commitments. We aim to empower children and parents alike to take ownership of information that supports their success.
🔹 🌍🌟 Being Informed and Prepared (Article 28 & 29) – Every child has the right to an education, and with that comes the responsibility to engage fully. We communicated the club details in December, providing the dates in a letter sent home as a hard copy, emailed directly, and published on the school website. By taking time to read and keep this information, families help their children participate confidently.
🔹 🌍🌟 Shared Communication (Article 12) – We value families’ voices and work hard to keep everyone informed. In addition to the original letter, we issued reminders by text message and re-sent the letter in hard copy last week. Responsibility is a shared journey – when families stay updated, children benefit from seamless support.
🔹 🌍🌟 Building Reliable Routines (Article 3) – Collecting children on time ensures their wellbeing and safety, showing respect for the time and care of all staff. Together, we model responsibility and reliability for every child.
Responsibility means taking ownership of the information provided and acting on it to support each child’s experience at school. Thank you for partnering with us to ensure every child feels prepared, supported, and cared for.
Exam stress – sometimes referred to as test anxiety – is of course a long-running issue for children and young people. Many experts have suggested that the enforced break to traditional testing during the pandemic (specifically the relative lack of familiarity with exam situations) has exacerbated this problem for those who are currently in education.
The possible impact of exam stress on children’s mental, emotional and physical wellbeing is difficult to overstate – and students’ need for support is seldom greater than during these periods of their academic life. Our guide offers you ten practical tips for helping young people to manage exam stress and minimise its potentially detrimental effects.
The lunch menus are on a 3 week rota - please find the Monday date at the top to know what will be on offer for the week. There are 3 menus to see below. Yum!
Please note that on the rare occasion there may be a slight change on offer - this is usually due to delivery delays.
More information and a weekly update of these low cost suggestions can be found on the Oval Learning Cluster Website - Families Page. Our School works in Partnership with the Oval Learning Cluster.
