Term 4 2425 Herbert Morrison Newsletter Issue 47 Thursday 3rd April 2025
Dear Parents and Carers,
It’s been a note-worthy fortnight at HM—our school choir hit all the right notes at the Royal Festival Hall! If you missed their pitch-perfect performance, don’t worry—watch the video and enjoy their incredible talent from the comfort of your home. 🎶
Meanwhile, Science Night was a real blast (no lab coats required!). Our Year 5 and 6 students cracked the code like true detectives, but there were some shocking surprises along the way! Check out the video—you won’t believe your eyes. 🧪🔎
🎉 Exciting News! We’ve Gone for Gold! 🎉
We are very proud to announce that, following a robust assessment day—which included speaking with parents, children, and staff—we have been awarded the GOLD Rights Respecting Schools Award! 🏅 This is a huge achievement, and we can’t wait to celebrate together on Friday, 25th April.
To mark this occasion, we invite all children to wear gold (or yellow) with their uniform on the day. Dust off your crowns—we’re going for gold! 👑✨ If you’re stuck for something golden, why not pop on your golden PE top?
Now, onto something just as important—online safety. Thanks to some super-sleuth parents, we were able to support a few pupils this term. Just like you wouldn’t leave the front door unlocked, keeping an eye on your child’s online activity is key! Head over to our online safety page for top tips and handy resources. 🛡️💻
💡 Bright idea for saving on uniforms! 💡 I’m thrilled to share a 10% discount code for all parents from MyClothing—because looking smart shouldn’t cost the earth!
🔹 Code: MYCSS10
🔹 Expires: 31/05/2025
Talking of uniform - please remember to bring a donation to school tomorrow if you want to wear your own clothes - this is a PTA Fund raising event - please support if you can.
And finally, as we prepare for Term 5, we know it’s going to be a big one—packed with assessments and academic challenges. But at HM, we don’t just test knowledge, we build resilience! That’s why wellbeing will be just as much of a focus.
To wrap things up on a sweet note—Eid Mubarak to those who celebrated, and a huge thank you to Miss Khadija for the delicious cake that had staff coming back for seconds (and thirds!). And to those preparing for the Easter weekend—Hoppy Easter! 🐰🐣
Wishing you all a peaceful two-week break. A reminder that there are no after-school clubs on Friday—every child must be collected at 2pm. We look forward to seeing you all again on Tuesday, 22nd April 2025. Please ensure your child is in class by 8:50am (except Nursery and Reception, who start at 9am).
Kind regards,
Mrs Peake - Headteacher

📢 Illness Reminder 📢
If your child is unwell at school, we will call you to collect them. Please ensure we have your up-to-date contact details.
⚠ If your child has vomited, we follow UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) guidance ("Health protection in schools and other childcare facilities," updated October 2023) and NHS guidance:
✔ They should go home and stay off school for at least 48 hours after the last episode of vomiting or diarrhea.
Please remember to inform the school of your child's absence each day; even if the school knows they are home due to vomiting - this is to update school if new symptoms develop. The best way to do this is via Studybugs.
Currently, 62% of parents are using Studybugs—if you’re among the 38% who haven’t signed up yet, please do so as soon as possible!
We aim for 95% attendance - well done to Reception Class, Year 1, Year 3 and Year 5 for achieving this so far this academic year. Overall we are nearly 95% for this academic year. We are so very very close the 95% target and with your help we could still achieve this by the end of the year. We made it past the 95% for Term 4... you did it this term - I know you can do it again! Please download the STUDY BUGS app and support us in raising our attendance %.
Please help your child achieve by ensuring they are in school when they are well enough to be here.
Medical Appointment Documentation
Please ensure all appointments are made outside of school hours.
To help us accurately record absences, please email a copy of any medical appointment texts or appointment cards to the school office for confirmation when your child(ren) is absent for health-related reasons. This ensures their attendance records are kept up-to-date.
When making appointments please ask your doctors for a medical slip or appointment text to give to school.
Thank you for your cooperation and support.

The Herbert Morrison PTA would love to create a Herbert Morrison Cookbook! It would be fantastic if pupils, parents and staff could contribute recipes - or perhaps a parent does the recipe and their child can draw a picture to be published with it. We welcome all ideas from casseroles or curries to pies and cakes and more - it can be your favourite go to dish, a family tradition or a latest discovery. We want to highlight the diversity and culture of the school through the art of cooking. If there’s a story that goes alongside it, and you’re happy to, please include that also.
Full information can also be found on the flyer, or on the PTA Website at www.herbertmorrisonpta.co.uk

Rise then Shine
Please note that due to low pupil numbers the last Rise then Shine session for this academic year is Friday 4th April. We are expecting to start them again in September when we have a new class of children to join and hopefully top up the numbers. Thank you to those of you who were supporting this offer.
The FREE school Breakfast Club is still available for all pupils ( Reception Class to Year 6) from 8.30am.
After School Clubs
JAG’s After School Clubs, called Stay And Play, offer fun, happy and safe places for children to play freely across age groups and take part in structured activities such as arts and crafts and active play. Providing an energising end to the school day, children can join group activities, enjoy a healthy snack, or chill out with toys and games that are all set up and ready for them to enjoy.

We discuss the values and question of the week in assembly. Discuss these with your child at home.
Imagine you're really good at something, like drawing amazing pictures or running super fast. How can you show that you're happy about being good at it without making others feel bad if they're not as good at that thing?
Teaching HUMILITY Through RRSA (Rights Respecting Schools Award) 🌍🤝
The Rights Respecting Schools Award (RRSA) helps foster humility by embedding children's rights into school culture. Here’s how:
The RRSA quietly cultivates humility by weaving an understanding of rights into the fabric of school life.
🔹 🌍🌱 Recognising Our Place (Various Articles) – As children learn about the universal nature of rights – that everyone has them – they start to see themselves as part of a larger global community. It’s not about being better or worse, but about being equal members.
🔹 🌍🌱 Valuing Every Voice (Article 12) – When children genuinely understand that their opinions matter and that everyone else's do too, it fosters a sense of shared importance. It's less about shouting the loudest and more about appreciating the richness of different perspectives.
🔹 🌍🌱 Learning from Others (All Articles) – The RRSA framework encourages learning about the lives and experiences of children around the world. This exposure naturally broadens horizons and helps children realise that there's a lot to learn from others, no matter their background.
🔹 🌍🌱 Focusing on Fairness (All Articles) – At its heart, RRSA is about fairness and justice. When the focus is on ensuring everyone’s rights are met, it shifts the attention away from individual achievements as the only measure of worth. It’s about the collective good.
By living and breathing the principles of the RRSA, schools help children grow into individuals who are secure in themselves without needing to be the centre of attention. They learn that true strength lies not in boasting, but in recognising the value and dignity of everyone around them. It's about quietly making the world a better place, together. 💚🌟🔹 🌍🌱
Nurturing Online Safety
The online world presents numerous benefits but also significant risks, and we acknowledge the growing challenges that schools and parents face in ensuring children's safety in digital environments. It is essential that we collaborate to educate children about responsible online behaviours, promote safe digital practices, and equip them with the tools to navigate social media effectively.
To support in addressing this issue, we have compiled a range of resources, guidance, and best practices that can help staff, parents, and students promote online safety and prevent harmful behaviours. You can access these resources via the following links:
UK Safer Internet Centre: Offers resources and guidance to help children and young people stay safe online.
Child Safety Online: A Practical Guide for Parents and Carers: Provides advice on how to keep children safe when using social media platforms.
Social Media, Online Communities and Safeguarding: Offers insights into safeguarding children within social media and online communities.
Online Safety (E-Safety) and Schools - NSPCC Learning: Provides guidance for schools on developing and implementing online safety policies and procedures.
We encourage parents to engage in open conversations with students to raise awareness of the risks associated with social media and promote a culture of safeguarding both online and offline.
If you require additional support, training, or guidance, please don't hesitate to contact us.
The lunch menus are on a 3 week rota - please find the Monday date at the top to know what will be on offer for the week. There are 3 menus to see below. Yum!
Please note that on the rare occasion there may be a slight change on offer - this is usually due to delivery delays.
