Term 3 2425 Herbert Morrison Newsletter Issue 42 Thursday 16th January 2025
Dear Parents and Carers,
Dear Parents and Carers,
Happy New Year! A new year brings fresh starts, and we’re excited to begin Term 3 with lots to celebrate and look forward to.
We’re delighted to announce that our school has achieved flagship status for the Inclusion Quality Mark, recognizing our commitment to inclusion and excellence. You can read the full report here.
This term, we’re focusing on building confidence in maths, starting with our “Talk Maths” Open Morning on Tuesday, 21st January, 9:00–10:00 AM. Join us to learn how we make maths fun and work alongside your child to explore strategies that build skills and confidence.
No dogs in the playground: For the safety and comfort of all, please remember that dogs are not allowed on the school grounds.
Wrap up warmly: With the colder weather, it’s essential that children come to school dressed appropriately in coats, hats, scarves, and gloves. Please ensure all items are clearly named to avoid them getting lost.
Thank you for your vigilance in ensuring the playground is safe. Some areas are slippy in the morning so please be mindful. We appreciate you ensuring your children are not riding their scooters or bikes in the playground - thank you!
We’re pleased to announce that uniform items can now be purchased online or in-store at our new provider in Norwood. More details can be found in the full newsletter.
JAGs Wrap Around Care
Thank you to all of you who have supported the new wrap around care service we have in school. The breakfast club is from 7.30am and the after school club is until 5.50pm. Thank you to the many parents who have collected on time - this is very helpful. as always with new adventures we are tweaking the routines and JAGs have updated the invoices to reflect the collection time of 5.50pm. Please ensure that children are collected promptly and no later than 5.50pm. See the school website for information on how to book the sessions.
There is a dedicated bell for JAGs by the main entrance door. If you need to call JAGs while your child is there please call 0757 03 776 89.
Whilst the after school care has proven very popular the Breakfast club has very low numbers of 2 or 3 on most days. Please note that if this continues this will not be a viable option and will be removed from the school offer. JAGs have agreed to continue Breakfast Club until the end of the term and to re-assess the numbers before a final decision is made.
Thank you for your continued support. Let’s make 2025 a year of growth, learning, and success for everyone!
Kind regards
Mrs Peake - Headteacher

👏 A Big Thank You to Jill!
Special thanks to Jill, one of our incredible parents, for researching the best deals and creating a handy infographic to help you navigate your options. 💡
📌 Where to Buy
Logo items are available from WEAR ABOUTS and My Clothing, but remember, all non-logo items can be purchased from any retailer, including these two providers.
For full details, visit the Uniform section on our school website. Let’s make this term a stylish one!
Together, we’ve got this! 💪
* Please note that we do not have the space for ruck-sacks to be stored in the classroom. The cloak room areas in each class are limited in space. Book bags fit inside the pupil trays and so do not take up any classroom space. If you have a particular need to bring a larger bag for days other than swimming please speak to a member of the Senior Leadership Team. If we have too many requests we will have to decline so please only bring it a larger bag if you really need to. Thank you in advance.
These children have been recognised for their incredible effort and excellence! They will receive a golden certificate, a big round of applause during the celebration assembly, and a coveted spot in the prestigious Gold Book. Well done to all our shining stars!

Attendance for Term 3 ... so far
We aim for 95% attendance - we are above this for most classes for Term 3 so far. Come on Year 2, Year 5 and Year 6 - you can do it! Overall we are 95.2% for this term and just below at 94.9% for the academic year to date! With a positive term we could happily tipple over into 95%! Please download the STUDY BUGS app and support us in raising our attendance %.
Please help your child achieve by ensuring they are in school when they are well enough to be here.
Medical Appointment Documentation
Please ensure all appointments are made outside of school hours.
To help us accurately record absences, please email a copy of any medical appointment texts or appointment cards to the school office for confirmation when your child(ren) is absent for health-related reasons. This ensures their attendance records are kept up-to-date.
When making appointments please ask your doctors for a medical slip or appointment text to give to school.
Thank you for your cooperation and support.

In our school, we call them World Values. Do you know the 5 values? 🧐 They are Democracy, Rule of Law, Individual Liberty, Mutual Respect, and Tolerance of Different Faiths and Beliefs. 🌍🇬🇧 #ValuesMatter
Promoting Peace Through RRSA
Teaching peace through the Rights Respecting Schools Award (RRSA) involves fostering an understanding of key rights and encouraging children to develop the values, attitudes, and skills needed to live peacefully with others. Here’s how we teach peace through RRSA principles:
Article 12: Respecting the views of others by promoting active listening and dialogue.
Article 19: Understanding the importance of safety and protection, creating a secure environment for all.
Article 29: Developing respect for human rights, cultures, and diversity to build peaceful communities.

Together, we've got this.
For some children, the return to education at the end of the school holidays can be a difficult time for a variety of reasons. The start of the new term comes with plenty of challenges, from social worries to the stress of ensuring they’re entirely ready for upcoming lessons and learning.
Of course, these youngsters don’t have to weather these burdens alone, and as parents and educators, we should do all we can to support the children in our care as they head back to school. This free guide offers you expert advice on how you can be there for children and young people as they transition back into their school’s routine.
