Term 1 2425 Herbert Morrison Newsletter Issue 34 Thursday 5th September 2024
We have had a joyous start to the Autumn Term. Welcome to Wombat Class, our new Reception children, who have settled in so well. We are pleased that Herbert Morrison is such a popular school. The Friends of Herbert Morrison will be holding a welcome morning event on Friday 13th September at 9am. Please come and join us to welcome new Friends to the Herbert Morrison Family.
New staff members
Welcome to Mr Samuel - a Teaching Assistant based in Year 6 and also to Miss Nathalie our new Family Support Worker based in the office and supporting the Government directive on attendance monitoring.
Thank you to all the parents and children who have given the staff such a warm welcome back.
Mrs Peake - Headteacher
Thank you for making sure your children are smart and ready for learning by following the school uniform guidance.
Marks and Spencers have informed us that they are not intending to continue with MandSyouruniform. There may be limited supply. Meanwhile MyClothing is able to provide the logo items. All other items can be purchased from any retailer.
Please note your child's PE day; they must come into school wearing the school uniform of the logo golden polo shirt and black shorts/leggings/joggers. Children can wear trainers to school ONLY on PE days.
Year 5 are going swimming this term. Please note that all children MUST wear a swimhat. Please ensure your child has goggles if they need them.
Year 1 modelling how to wear the perfect uniform.
Year 6 modelling how to wear a PE kit.
Following our much needed clear-out of all unclaimed uniform, we have decided that the new protocol at the end of every half term going forward will be to take unclaimed items for recycling. As such, please can we ask you to be very diligent in naming your children’s items as we really do make every effort to reunite everybody with their things when it’s possible! We can’t however be responsible for keeping items over holiday periods so we do appreciate your support with this.
Please make the time to meet with your class teacher next week to discuss both general reminders and specific year group priorities.
See the school website for more information

2 WEEK DIARY
Be Smart with a heart
Ask your child what SMART means for online safety. All classes have reviewed online safety including good online behaviour and attitudes. Please speak to your child about online safety: this poster is a good starting point. Find out what they already know about staying safe online - you will be impressed!
We discuss the values and question of the week in assembly. Discuss these with your child at home.
Do you follow the same 'good manners' values outside of school?
The National Online Safety #WakeupWednesday is included on our X ( aka Twitter ) @HerbMorrPriSch.
For many children and young people, change can be hard to process – and this is no different when the time comes for them to return to school. After such a long stretch of time away, they may begin to feel creeping doubts over their lessons, their teachers, their routines, or even any friends they haven’t seen over the summer.
Parents, educators, and other trusted adults play a vital role for these children, and it is extremely important to know how to effectively support young people through this potentially difficult time. This free guide offers you expert advice on how to lend a hand to youngsters returning to education, and details what you can do to make this transition as easy as possible.

The lunch menus are on a 3 week rota - please find the Monday date at the top to know what will be on offer for the week. There are 3 menus to see below. Yum!
Please note that there has been a change to the Friday Fish vs Fish fingers following a democratic vote led by the children. Fish will be for 2 weeks and Fish fingers will be for 1 week out of the 3 as 30% votes for the fish fingers and 60% votes for fish!
