10: Chibi Robo Plug Into Adventure (Gamecube)
Chibi-Robo is a phenomenal game and starts the series off right. Easily being the best game in the series; Chibi-Robo follows a robot of the same name in a classic action-adventure game with its own story to boot. Discover the mysteries of the Sanderson family as their cleaning robot, going around and making everyone happy.

9: Cave Story
Cave Story is a timeless masterpiece created by Daisuke "Pixel" Amaya. The game has not only an impressive visual style but rivals even modern indie titles' visuals. There is quite nothing like Cave Story, and it ends up being one of the most difficult platformers to date. Its story, while simple, is interesting enough to keep you engaged and its characters are unique. Unfortunately, the game is soured by an impossible-to-obtain (without looking it up) true ending. The game is available for free at Cavestory.org.

8: Mario & Luigi Partners in Time (Nintendo DS)
Mario & Luigi: PIT, is the most underrated title in the series, following the brothers and baby versions of themselves as they save the Mushroom Kingdom from alien invaders known as the Shroobs. The game uses action commands, where you time your attacks like the Paper Mario series. If you're a fan of Bowser's Inside Story, I strongly recommend this title.

7: A Hat in Time (PC and Consoles)
Hat in Time is the single best 3d platformer and if you think that's subjective, then at least consider that it's the most technical one. Feeling like Mario 64 injected itself with the drug known as "BEING A MODERN PLATFORMER" a Hat in Time does what Bug Fables did for Paper Mario; creating a perfect sequel to the first title in the series.

6: OMORI (PC and Consoles)
Not for the faint of heart, OMORI tells the story of Sunny and OMORI, two very similar people. OMORI's segments follow him through the dreamworld called OTHERWORLD, while Sunny's follow him through his adventures as he reconnects with his friends in Faraway town. OMORI has an incredible presentation, with its style and sound effects, taking inspiration from the MOTHER series, OMORI creates a complex world with lively characters.

5: NieR: Automata (PC and Consoles)
NieR: Automata is a sequel to the PS3 game NieR. Years after the humans escaped Earth after an alien invasion, androids (created by the humans) and machines (created by the aliens) fight over the planet to claim it. Follow 2B and 9S as they try to take it back. While not having many areas, NieR: Automata does a lot with what it has and creates a very emotional and intense story around its characters. And singlehandedly helped me enjoy the genre around it.

Pikmin 2 is a sequel to Pikmin, following a return of Olimar to explore for treasure on a remote lush planet with Plant-like bugs called Pikmin, capable of taking down large enemies with proper coordination. Pikmin is an RTS like no other, where you're directly in the combat, working with your troops to take down foes much larger than yourself. Pikmin 2 is an improvement in graphical style after the first game in an even better engine.

2: OneShot (PC and Consoles)
OneShot is a very interesting puzzle game that you have to play twice. It follows Niko as you both try to save a dying world by bringing back the light, they carry around The Sun, a powerful lightbulb. Not much more can be said without ruining it, other than its impressive music, graphical style (Especially on an OLED) and an amazing story.

Super Mario World is a Timeless Masterpiece. What Super Mario Bros. 3 ended the NES with, Super Mario World picks up and rides away within Yoshi's mouth. Super Mario World is the quintessential 2d platformer and holds up to modern AAA and indie titles.
