Prof. Silvia Pease from the Department of Art & Art History at  Florida International University, in Miami, in collaboration with Prof. Tshabadira Tsholofelo from the Central University of Technology, in Bloemfontein, welcomes you to a COIL experience where you can meet, interact, and collaborate with students from other countries. COIL will link your courses (FIU, Graphic Design/digital arts, and CUT communication design) through a series of activities over the next weeks. This joyful collaborative learning experience will facilitate the development of multicultural skills, influencing your personal and professional lives.

We live in a multicultural society where we can identify several cultural groups and feminine realities. But, do we recognize and understand the cultural differences? Do we engage and interact with others? Here is where we start talking about interculturalism which helps us have a better understanding and respect for other cultures. That is, we can learn from one another, enjoy the experiences, and grow together.

This COIL (Collaborative Online International Learning) experience is a teaching and learning methodology developed by Jon Rubin at the State University of New York (SUNY).

COIL combines the four essential dimensions of virtual mobility: (1) it is a collaborative exercise between teachers and students; (2) makes use of technology and online interaction; (3) it has international dimensions; and (4) it is integrated into the learning process.
