I am currently studying the Bahia Inglesa Formation in the Atacama Region of Chile. This formation contains one of the most dynamic fossil whale sites in the world, Cerro Ballena. I am analyzing the organic and ash rich strata to inform on depositional environment, temperature, and paleoecology. This project includes colleagues at UA-Tuscon, geochronology and sedimentology, and Santiago, Chile, vertebrate paleontology and taphonomy.
Rodent trackway fossils from the latest Oligocene were found near Mt. St. Helens in SE Western Washington in 1964. I was able to locate the outcrop, find additional trackways in situ, as well as measure the section (~10m) to make a high-resolution stratigraphic column. I presented on this research in a technical session at the 2020 GSA annual meeting.
