About Mrs. Butler

This is my twenty-first  year as a Teacher-Librarian and my eighth at Whitman.  I taught elementary school library and tech in the Beaverton School District for nine years, spent one year job-sharing in Portland, and then three years at a private school. I am excited to be here at Whitman!

The best part of my job is hanging out with my terrific students, and nothing makes me happier than finding just the right book for each of them. I also love to play with technology, and take classes to learn more about it whenever I can.

I'm married and have two grownup sons. My hobbies include reading (of course!), taking walks, doing the Sunday crossword puzzle. and bargain hunting.  My first teaching job was as a music specialist in the Portland School District. I took time off to raise my kids, and discovered along the way that the library was where I really wanted to be, which sent me back to Portland State for a Master's Degree in Educational Media and Librarianship.

My goal is to make our library welcoming to our entire school community. Feel free to stop by with questions, to volunteer, or for book recommendations. And please check my website for information about books, technology, and what we're learning in the library.
